I couldn't see this posted anywhere.

Next month they begin shooting the film "Nowhere Boy", a story about John Lennon's teenage years. They've cast Aaron Johnson as Lennon and Thomas Sangster as Paul McCartney.

What does everyone think of this?
As a HUGE Beatles fan, I am apprehensive. Because this HAS to be done right. I hope they're not taking the decision to make this film too lightly.

I love the Beatles but I'm nervous to learn about this. I would love for this movie to be as good as the recent Frost/Nixon (which was superb) but I'm fearful for this one tbh.

There's tons of Beatle-story films out there and none are very good so I won't hold my breath. Backbeat is about the best I've seen, if they follow their lead it'll be great.

I went to see this today. Thought it was very good and mostly accurate.

The relationship between John and his mother was portrayed as ambiguous and possibly incestuous, which was weird. Apart from that, the tension between Julia and Mimi was portrayed very well. I'm glad that Uncle George was featured in the film, as he often gets overlooked in the story of John's life. He brought up another man's son, which can't have been easy to do.

I saw it yesterday.

As a huge Beatles fan, I think I'm harder to please. And being picky - "Paul" was too skinny and "John" was too pretty. BUT otherwise it was pretty damn good. Loved the chemistry between John and his mum and I liked John's sarcasm. Some good lines as well... I LOVED:

John: Why couldn't God have made me Elvis?
Julia: Cos he was saving you for John Lennon.
John: Why God? Why?
(audience smiles to themselves as they remember - you're gonna be more popular than Jesus, never mind Elvis!!)

Complaints......
I REALLY did not see George AT ALL in that boys performance. George was the newcomer and the obvious baby of the group so was supposed to be a bit more introverted than he was...... and just none of the mannerisms were there. It didn't look like the actor had ever watched George at all!!

Also, they could have made more of the group banter, fun and energy that the Beatles are so famous for. They WERE all about the youth and energy... and they definitley should have reflected more of that. A wasted oppertunity. I got into the Beatles 2 years ago when I watched "A Hard Days Night" in film studies. So it was their personalities that first attracted me to them! If they'd have put a little more of that togetherness in "Nowhere Boy" that was shown in "A Hard Days Night" it would have been great.

Overall... 7/10. Because it was a good film and a real tearjerker!

Would like to know why this film isn't on at all cinemas! It's not available at either of the closest Odeons to me - although it is on at the Empire - but it's not free parking there - it's in the City Centre, not nearly so convenient.

Really looking forward to seeing it as the book was great.
