Nowhere Boy - John Lennon. December 26th (show at the film festival next week).

I saw it at the festival. Loved it. Even if you'd never heard of John Lennon, the story would keep you hooked. It's warm, witty, heartbreaking, absorbing.
Definitely recommend it. You don't have to be a Beatles fan to enjoy it.

I really want to see this, but surprise surprise it's not showing in my local Cineworld.

Instead, there's about 15 million showing of Sherlock Holmes instead.

It's had good reviews but I'm concerned that it's by the same writer as Control, which wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs. All the stories about Joy Division were that they were a bunch of normal fun-loving guys who just happened to make incredible music, but Control portrayed them as these haunted shades from a monochrome hell. I think I'd rather see Sherlock Holmes to be honest.

LOL.

Has anyone else here seen the movie? Does it strictly touch on his childhood and nothing in the latter part (i.e. Yoko Ono years, his death etc). Apparently the ending leaves you 'wanting more'. I've also heard that a sequal was thought up but nothing is in development as of yet.

I'm definitely intending to go and see it, molybecks, and I'd love a sequel, but there have been films about the next phase already (can't remember the title but it was all about Hamburg and Stuart Sutcliffe. The one with Ian Hart as John). Would personally love to see films about George or Paul...

EDIT: found it (it was Ian Hart, not John Hart!)

yeah i'd like too see that too. I also have heard there's a movie on the latter part of John's life, may have to check that out.

I reckon making a movie on Paul's life could be quite difficult as i have always found him to not spill or say too much, which is very professional. However, i guess they could on the beatles front.

one film I'd love to see is the story of Brian Epstein and his relationship with the four laRAB and especially the impact of his death on them...

It would also make a nice comparison with the way young singers are "managed" nowadays... treated more like commodities by big music moguls rather than people with something a bit deeper to offer... We need more Epsteins in today's music world - people who truly cared!

TBH you didn't miss much (i admit i wasn't exactly in the 'mood' for a movie either) but i found it hard to find out which character was who etc. Nowhere boy looks much better IMO. Also, there's a 10min featurette on the film4 site about the making of nowhere boy.
