Now that HTML v5 is out, will Flash become history?

Hell no. Not for a long, long time at the very least. HTML5 is still in early days and it doesn't have great stability with all browsers at the moment, as well as mobile devices, etc. Flash still has more to offer than HTML5 does and there are too many Flash-oriented websites which aren't likely to change, i.e. Newgrounds, which predominantly hosts Flash games and movies.

HTML5 will replace a lot of currently-Flash based websites such as YouTube, but it's unlikely it will completely replace Flash.

NO. Absolutely not. Even if HTML5 was the supported standards across all platforms right now you would still have Flash, not to mention other things. Just because HTML5 is becoming the standard doesn't mean everyone is ready for it or wants it.

Here is an example. My work place uses windows XP still because honestly its simple and just flat out works great still for the company. As you may know IE9 is not supported on XP or lower, what this means is XP is now starting to fall behind and will lack some compatibility with HTML5 - as long as updates continue though and other browsers remain compatible with XP this won't be an issue but as you can see old technology is still being phased out. Now imagine that issue around the world? By time everyone catches up to the point where you could go solely with HTML5 we'll be moving on trying to standardize the next great thing.

Although HTML5 can do more than flash and doesn't require any plugins Flash is still easier to use, in HTML5 you have all sorts of coding you have to do just to draw a line, but in Flash you have a whole design interface that you can use, if HTML5 gets a design interface then i would say without a doubt it would replace flash.

Is it not already? I thought Flash was pretty much a dead technology five years ago, I've certainly only designed in it once in the past seven years, and that was for some dumb banner advert that I could now do with jquery.

HTML5 isn't a standard yet, so... no. Flash will remain relevant until HTML5 is actually a specification and perhaps even beyond that...

EDIT>>>
By the way, the projected date that HTML5 will become a specification is sometime in 2020. Don't hold your breath. =)
