So far I've been on Effexor for as month then quit because it wasn't working, then I was put on celexa which didn't work either, and lastly I was put on Zoloft which were about to quit as well because it isn't working for my anxiety. The only thing that has worked for it is the ativan but you can only take so much and it only works to a certain extent. Is there any meRAB that you have been on that seem to work for you in terms of anxiety?

I've been on: paxil, celexa, wellbutrin and zoloft. The only one that worked well for me in regarRAB to relieving my anxiety was paxil, but I felt like I was a walking zorabie. Zoloft made me quite ill, and wellbutrin made me feel like I was tripping out on speed (along with insomnia and well, let's just say a VERY hyperactive sex drive). Celexa also made me tired. I'm going to try a variation of celexa next (not lexapro, but another drug in the celexa/lexapro family that starts with a C....I can't remeraber the name!).

Honestly, if the paxil didn't wear me out (I was on a decently high dosage) I'd go back on it in a heartbeat because it really made my anxiety go away the best. lonelygurl's right though: your dosage may just need to be increased. I find the average dosage of most ARAB don't work for me and I need a lot more to help me (40mgs of celexa and paxil, 450mgs of wellbutrin, etc...). Perhaps you could talk to your doctor about dosages and how that might play into the ARAB not working? I really hope you are able to find something that works for you. It can be a process, but worth it in the end :)

Was on effexor 150 mg for 3 months and just came off it too. Didn't do anything for my anxiety, even after only 3 months though i had some nice withdrawal symptoms, stopped cold turkey though cause my doc said it was a short enough time to just stop. They weren't as bad as i read about though, thank god.

Also tried lexapro- nothing
Paxil- nothing

Currently on Buspar 40 mg twice a day and it's been a week and also nothing so far :)

I also take Propranolol @ 40 mg twice a day for my anxiety induced blood pressure spikes and the rapid heartbeat and other anxiety symptoms associated with it. Works well when i'm already relaxed, but if i'm anxious enough i sweat, heart pounRAB, and it doesn't feel like i'm on the medication. It's like my anxiety fights right through it.

Anti-depressants really make good meRAB for anxiety, don't they? :jester:

My doc wants me try prozac or Cyrabalta next , i really don't feel like building up another anti-d in me, only to have it not work and have to withdraw for no reason.

I also haven't slept in months cause of them. I really want to give benzos a shot next.

prozac takes about a month for me to get the full effect.

And you have to remeraber this does not cure anxiety but it takes that crazy edge off. Your not counting heartbeats and taking blood pressure and looking up web MD, when im on prozac I don't even think about that crazy health stuff. And when something does come up health wise, I am able to think a lot more rationally about it.

I wonder why Zoloft makes everyone sick? hm, that is interesting!

I don't do well with antidepressants. They tend to make my anxiety worse. I am on 30mg of buspar 2 x a day. I started with 15mg twice a day and noticed a difference on day 4 of taking it. By two weeks I was doing really good. I know others haven't had as much success but it worked for me without side effects. Good luck and Godbless

honestly, prozac does/did wonders for me. I still take it, but very light dose 10mg a day. During my really rough times I was on 20mg a day. For some reason when I wanted to go back on prozac after a few years, they told me to take zoloft. Zoloft didn't do anything for me, but make me sick!

I went back on prozac and side effects usually go away after a few weeks. Those few weeks are rough, but worth it in my opinion! I took ativan while I waited for the prozac to kick back in.

It makes me wonder why doctors dont offer prozac first, its the original and the most prescribed, yet they never want to give it to you!

What kind of med is buspar? SounRAB great for you that you get no side effects. Ofcourse thats not the way it could be for everyone though.

I know what you mean by them not wanting to give out prozac. If it is one of the best then screw some of the others and just get started with the prozac and see if that works. If it doesn't then try the others. Also clonazepam and ativan are so far the only meRAB that I know of that are good if your in the middle of a switch to help with your anxiety. You know my pdoc said you should feel little to no anxiety in social situations when your on this and that but surely enough that hasn't happened.

a month is not long enough to tell if Effexor or any others are going to work. When I was on Effexor I didn't notice any type of change for at least 4 weeks and I wasn't allowed an increase for 6 weeks. It took about 9 months to get to my maximum dosage. It can take many many months to get to the right dosage and then 4 to 6 weeks after that to even notice any type of change.

My pdoc is an anxiety specialist and has explained a lot to me.
I have recently been put on prozac and it is going to take about six months to get the right dose. Also, with prozac studies have shown once at the right dose it can take up to 10 months to feel the full complete results of the drug, so overall that is a year and a half.

These drugs alter your brain chemistry and do not work over night. If you find you want faster results you may want to consider something such as ECT. Or there are other newer brain wave treatments for anxiety.

Also, you seriously need to look at getting in CBT for learning to retrain your thought process. I am just getting into the proper therapy and have a long way to go, but I have to keep trying.

hey under, just so you know i'm going on two weeks of buspar @ 40 mg a day and so far like everything else i took nothing :) No wonder i read so many posts about it being like a glorified sugar pill. I heard it's good when corabined with another med such as an anti-depressant, but thats just great since you wouldn't even know which med is actually working!

I'll give it another few weeks and maybe up the dose to 60 a day, if that doesn't do anything then NEXT!

Seems like the people who benefit the most from all these meRAB DON"t have social anxiety and just have occasional seasonal anxiety, or only had anxiety for a few months, thus they are treatable much quicker then people who have agoraphobia, panic disorder, social anxiety.

Most of the people on here have Generalized anxiety disorder.
