I saw the film last night- I thought it was really good. Judi Dench was brilliant- the character reminded me of my Mother in law (but thats another story!)

Saw this last week too. Judy Dench is just amazing in this. I was never a huge fan of hers before but I found her totally mesmerising in this film.

Only slight criticism is that I thought it fizzled out a bit towarRAB the end.

Can someone tell me (in spoilers please) how the book enRAB, because I heard that it is different to the film's ending.

Just wanted to say I watched this last night and thought it was excellent.

Great performances all round but I have to mention Judi Dench as well - she was, as cuttlefishspike says, mesmerising.

Very good and have to say had Judi Dench not been up against Helen Mirren at the oscars think she woould have won, Cate Blanchett should also have won the supporting oscar, two actresses at the top of their game working with great material.

I foudn this not as good as the book, but the first 2/3s was really good, ending was a bit uneven, IMO, agredd Dench was fab! Way better than Helen Mirren I thought.
