Fantastic, fantastic films!

No one else I know has seen these films and I'm desperate to discuss them.

Judi Dench is fabulous and I think she should have played the Queen in 'The Queen' to be honest. Helen Mirren was ok, but not spectacular.
Does anyone know how much of The Queen was speculation, and how much of it was actually fact?

Any thoughts on either film?

Yes I've seen both recently and much preferred Notes on a Scandal. The acting was absolutely superb.

Like you, I think Judi would have been excellent in The Queen but I have to say that Helen looked remarkably like HRH. I thought it was a good movie..well acted etc, but a bit boring in comparison to Notes on a Scandal. :)

I enjoyed both too - but have to agree that the better performance is Judi in Notes - I just felt The Queen was very much a TV movie and that Helen although looking very similar to HRH really did walk the movie whereas Judi gave a powerful performance that was difficult to take your eyes off.
I think The Queen pretty much told it how it was - I know if I had been her my first concern would have been the boys - and I remember be amazed at the time that there was such an outcry that she kept them away from the media spotlight of London - but just my opinion!

Great as Mirren was , Judi Dench should have won best actress at the oscars and Cate Blanchett should have won supporting actress, two actresses squaring off in full throttle. Fantastic to watch.
