Not Whining, Just Asking, What about other PDAs?

I bought the Tungsten T5. I wanted to support the little (or littler) guy. I wanted to avoid Microsoft OS beause of their control over the computer industry. (I have done this all my life and paid for it in lost time and frustration.) All of my friends with Garmin PDAs indicate that they have NO problems with their PDA running Microsoft. Has anyone else heard this? Is it time to give into Microsoft? :(

The first thing to do is never buy a new model when it first comes out. Palm, PocketPC, or a Maytag washer - it doesn't matter, you will have more problems than buying a model which has some history and most of the bugs worked out. But, no matter what you buy, you'll never have something with NO problems, just less problems.

The Garmin iQue runs both the PocketPC and Palm OS. Both versions work with just about the same level of reliability. I haven't seen any evidence that one platform is more or less bug prone than the other. The T5, by comparison, has had a lot of bugs, which are getting worked out, but it's still not a stable platfrom. HP has released several new PocketPC's that are having a similar level of problems. There's an old saying that you can tell the pioneers by the arrows in their backs. :)

Just as a personal observation, I buy things based on their usefulness to me. The world will work the way it will work and I'm not going to change it based on my $400 purchase.

Jim:

1. Had no idea the iQue runs BOTH - surely not @ same time - do you have to PICK the OS at purchase?

2. Arrows in back - ain't that the truth.

3. THANK YOU for what might be the "tip of the year."

4. No, $400 purchases won't change the way the world works - but it sure stops supporting a company that hasn't cared about the $400 user. The OP is right in at least "investigating;" If it's Dell Axim time, then you have a decision to make. I personally wouldn't know how to deal with "non-Palm OS" although I'm by no means an "MS hater." I forgot to take the T3 with me the other day - empty holster - (there's the arrows reference again!) - and at the "end of the day" . . had mounds of little notes and just about tore my hair out. That's ONE DAY. Really need the "on the belt as I go" thing, and proved to myself that my next $400 will NOT be on a used laptop to replace the T3. I would actually, at this point, take a T5 - that's why I made some "software changes" recently.

It's VERY interesting about the iQue though and I'll be checking that out right now . . . . . thanks again.

To Gobi: take your time, XMAS is coming . . . . 30 days can make a big difference. Apple, Sony, Garmin, Palm & the PPC makers will all be fighting for your $$$. That's a good thing. In the meantime, I STILL think that Palm OS, albeit OS 5.4, "softwared right," is far more flexible & intuitive than PPC. Ask your MS friends if they can EDIT a spreadsheet on the handheld yet.
