Not sure what doctor I need to see

I became suddenly dizzy (non-spinning, non-syncope) about 8 months ago and went to ER, then visited my PCP several times and finally saw an ENT that performed many balance tests and nothing remarkable was found by any of these except the ENT found a few abnormalities in some of the tests and theorized it may be migraine vertigo.

I have the symptoms all day every day except when sleeping or while I'm walking around. I actually don't feel the dizziness when I'm up and walking - it's felt most while I'm sitting. The best way I can describe it is it's like I sense a feeling of motion in my body when I'm still, and when I move my back, neck or head, I get an odd sensation - it's like the movement feels unatural or unbalanced in some way. Even taking a deep breath causes the feeling to worsen. I also get wierd head rush-like feelings in my head.

I don't have any pain, no tingling or numbness, no fainting.

I don't know what I should do now or what type of doctor I should try or if I should try again with my PCP (who basically seemed to out of suggestions the last I saw her).

Kabees: How old are you? Have you ever had your blood sugars tested. A symptom of low blood sugar is dizziness and headaches. Do you feel better if you have something to eat?

Kabees,

Some years ago I experienced EXACTLY the same symptoms and sensations you describe....this bizarre and upsetting sensation of movement if I was seated and totally still. Like the earth/bed/chair/couch was moving without me. I also sometimes felt like I had sea-legs" when I walked, as if I were on a ship, which I know you are not experiencing. Sometimes just standing brushing my teeth made me feel like I was gong to lose my balance.

I went to several ENTS in NYC, had multiple ear.nose/throat plus balance tests. Nothing remarkable. Also saw an ophthalmologist since sometimes it can be an occular issue. Perfectly normal.
Also had complete blood workups- all normal, perfect.
Every doc I saw said that they had ruled out a physical or anatomical cause and that this sensation is often rooted in anxiety. I didn't FEEL particularly anxious but the sensation sure was making me anxious. Sensation=anxiety=more sensation.

I decided to go to a neurologist since it was hard for me to believe that this was psychosomatic.
MRIs, CAT scans, more balance tests and thorough neuro workups by 2 of the best neuro guys in New York.
$10,000 later, (out of pocket even WITH insurance!) nothing. Nada. Nil. Zilch. Was told they see this often in perfectly healthy adults and that it WILL go away.

Was prescribed valium at the time, (took myself to a therapist as well) and slowly it started to abate. Took almost a year though.

So do see a neuro person, if for no other reason than to put your mind at ease.

Look up bppv on the Internet. It has to do with the inner ear being off and it can really throw one's balance. I got up one day and had all I could do to stand up and this is what it was. I am no dr., but I believe the crystals in the inner ear become dislodged. Good luck.

As a nurse, I agree with the other replies. You definately need to see a
neurologist.
It could be anything.....but a neurologist is most qualified to diagnose any
condition that might be going on.
Keep in mind....it could be anxiety. :(
Whichever, don't fret about it. Make an appointment and go.

Good Luck!:)
