Not-so-smart moms

Peggy Hill from King of the Hill isn't as educated as she apparently thinks that she is.

And then there's Pickles Oblong from The Oblongs, who is neglectful and lazy. Mind you, Pickles is more drunk than scatterbrained.

Mrs. Brief (aka, Bulma's mom) on Dragon Ball Z is a certified ditz.

According to the online dictionary:

ditz (d
ibreve.gif
ts)n. Slang A scatterbrained or eccentric person.

I'd say that Mrs. Brief fits the not-so-smart mom description pretty nicely.

Cow and Chickens mom and dad from Cow and Chicken. I have to say the mom was not very smart but than it has been a while since I've seen the show LOL.

I think Cartman's mom tops this list. Look at the episode 'Tsst'. If the woman would do some actual parenting and not indulge Cartman in his every whim, we'd have a wildly different ( though boring) character.

The mom from The Oblongs is not only "not so smart", but she is killing herself with the ammount of booze she drinks and the ammount of cigarettes she smokes. LoL, she's actually kind of cool! The mother from Bobby's World was kind of dumb, especially with her little slogans she would spurt out that made no sense at all.

Gertie (Hey Arnold!) - She's not Arnold's real mom but she's been a mother to him for most of his life.

Patrick's Mom (Spongebob) - She and her husband stood outside of Squidward's house for hours asking "where's partick?".

Miriam Pataki (Hey Arnold!) - Although (and I'm being serious) it seemed like something was wrong with her. I think she was depressed or something. She did redeemed herself when she took Bob's place at the now defunct Beeper Emporium. *wonders if anyone will get the joke*

But isn't that what is called being a know-it-all? Besides the only thing she's really dumb at is Spanish which she thinks she's mastered but can't actually use properly.

I don't know about this one. Mom & Dad act more crazy than dumb. Have they actually done anything that was deemed dumb?

Delia, Lydia's stepmother in the Beetlejuice animated series. While in the original movie she was just snobish, in the cartoon she became so DUMB.

I wouldn't say Delia was dumb, just very gullible, as was everyone in the real world on that show. I mean, Beetlejuice was kind of the ultimate con man, anyone (barring Lydia) BJ targeted pretty much ended up falling for his ploys.

With all due respect, you're just splitting hairs. This isn't something that needs to be debated. Anyway, I never once used the word "stupid" to describe the character. The topic of this thread is "not-so-smart moms", and therefore, Mrs. Brief fits the category. Period.

I never once got the impression that Grandma Gertie was dumb, I'm having trouble trying to understand why you would feel she was not-so-smart. She was a little crazy, sure, but I can't recall anything she did that made her seem stupid (unless I'm not remembering things about that show as well as I thought I did).

Totally agree with Miriam Pataki, although I think it was more a case of her being an alcoholic rather than actual stupidity.

I agree 100% about Peggy Hill and Lois Griffin.

Yeah, the way Miriam talks and how you sometimes see her lying on the couch in a hangover-style were good hints that Helga had an alcoholic mother.

And speaking of Miriam's voice, Dexter and Dee-Dee's mom on "Dexter's Laboratory" isn't too bright either (the speaking of thing is because Kath Soucie voiced both characters using a very similar voice. It'd be funny if the Patakis and Dexter's family were related!) I mean, look at the infamous "Parrot Trap" episode. She's making something, she follows the recipe with two eggs and one stick of butter, then half a cup of sugar: she puts half of the sugar in the container into the bowl! Then Dexter's mechanical parrot comes around and it goes like... Then it's like...

Dexter's Mom: A pinch of cinnamon.
Parrot: A cup of cinnamon.
Dexter's Mom: A cup of cinnamon.
Parrot: A quart of peppers.
Dexter's Mom: A quart of peppers.
Parrot: A box of olives.
Dexter's Mom: A box of peppers.
Parrot: "Yup, yup!"
Dexter's Mom: A block of cheese.
Parrot: A block of cheese.
Dexter's Mom: A gallon of milk.
Parrot: (inside refrigerator) A gallon of milk. (mom grabs parrot) Are you sneakinguponme?!
Dexter's Mom: ("pours" invisible liquid from parrot into mixing bowl) A cup of coffee.
Parrot: A cup of coffee.
Dexter's Mom: Beans! (a bean can goes flying from her)
Parrot: Beans! (cookies go flying) COOOOOOKIEEEEEES.
Dexter's Mom: Cookies!
Parrot: "Worms and plastic minnows!"
Dexter's Mom: Now wait just a minute here! (gives pensive look) Where am I gonna get worms and plastic minnows?
Parrot: "...the Florida Everglades!"
(Mom drives off in the car!)

I lampooned this hilarious scene in my funny YouTube Poop on the episode, managing to keep the original gag intact, but sort of like...

Dexter's Mom: ("pours" invisible liquid from parrot into mixing bowl) A cup of coffee.
Parrot: A cup of coffee.
Dexter's Mom: Beans! (a bean can goes flying from her)
Parrot: Beans! Beans! Beans! Beans! (cookies go flying) COOOOOOKIEEEEEES.
Dexter's Mom: Cookies!
Parrot: "The bagel!" "The bagel!" "The bagel!"
Dexter's Mom: Now wait just a minute here! (gives pensive look) Where am I gonna get worms and the bagel?
Parrot: "Well, like they say in Brooklyn..."
(Mom drives off in the car!)

I agree, Delia wasn't dumb; I think that most of the time she just thought she was imagining the werid things that were going on or that Charles was having a nervous attack whenever he came running about whatever weird thing he just saw. There were a couple of episodes where she goes to the Nietherworld and she is generally happy and intriqed by what she sees going on, as long as she doesn't know the truth.
