My dad's friend got into horses a few years ago. He knew nothing about horses but bought a few mares and thought he knew it all. He took two to a show with tail bandages on. I told him not to leave the bandages on all weekend and not to put them on too tight. He got back and took the bandages off, and their tails fell off as he'd cut off the blood supply by not listening to me. Dad bought a horse from him and he constantly tells Dad the most ridiculous things. Apparently she's highly strung and difficult to work with. She's the sweetest mare I've ever come into contact with and is so easy to work with it's unbelievable. He said she needed to rest her stomach from concentrates, but when quizzed about where he got that info from, he admitted he made it up. I don't ride Dad's mare, some one else does. She was in her first competition at the weekend and got placed (joint 1st at 1metre) and he says the rider isn't pushing her enough. She's only four. continued in expand.
I thought that he would have started to read things and find out things, but whatever he doesn't know he makes up!!! He basically admitted to me that he won't listen to me because i have ovaries. Well, he said 'you're a girl, what would you know about it?' I'm 22 with two kids and I started riding when i was 6. He's rough with his horses. He doesn't spend any time calming them. He called his stud stallion names (I know that seems pathetic to be ranting about) and went on about how he's really difficult to lead. When he is actually very sweet and loves apples over carrots. He seems to think that as he has 30+ horses he knows everything but can you ever know everything about horses?
He went on about how he has a good rep as a breeder, but when I was talking to people about him and his young stock, I was told nothing but negative. Luckily, dad's mare is ok, but I just wish he'd take my advice over this man's cos he's talking from somewhere but it's not his mouth.
