Have there ever been any cartoons in recent years with fathers and/or husbands who are intelligent and not anything at all like Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin?:confused:
 
Phil Funny from Doug may have been goofy but he wasn't an itdiot. In fact most of the adults were not idiots, except Robert Bob White. Vote for Me!
 
Not so dumb, eh?

Hank Hill (King of the Hill) - Very serious and afraid to show his true emotions. Only a natural disaster can force that out of him.

Howard Generic (Bobby's World) - I don't recall him acting silly.

Professor Utonium (PPG) - Yes he has his moments but most of the time he's smart and protective.



Those shows all have goofy acting dads.
 
Jacob Two-Two's dad. Morty, is actually quite intelligent and laid back. He's probably one of the best dads on television. Laid back and very educated. Damn shame only 26 out of the 61+ episodes of Jacob Two-Two have been shown in the US. Great show that deserves much better than qubo.
 
Kim Possible's dad was literally a rocket scientist. :D

The dad on Kid vs. Kat isn't dumb, just understandably doubtful about his obnoxious kid's claims about his sister's pet cat.

I don't think there were any dumb dads on Avatar. :p
 
I would say Gerald Broflovski is the least dumb of the South Park dads. There are a few occasions where he goofs up like the cheesing incident or that thing about him wanting to be a dolphin, but he does hand out useful advice to Kyle often, and he seems quite normal compared to Randy (especially in recent seasons).
 
This. Doc is just a straight-up badass.

I'd also nominate Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible, and... were there any Fantastic Four 'toons where Reed and Sue already had kids? 'Cause I can't remember any.

Speaking of... DCAU Aquaman. Dude cut off his own hand to save his son.
 
I was giving an example of dads that act like idiots.

One dad that comes to my mind (as intelligent and not very Goofy) is Robert Hawkins from "Static Shock". He never seemed like your typical idiot father to me. He was caring, undrstanding, but also strict.
 
Franklin's never appeared in animation, but Johnny's essentially a big kid, so I suppose Reed would count.

I'll also add:

Master Splinter (TMNT): The turtles weren't biologically his, naturally, but Splinter was the father figure that taught them all the ninja moves and kept them in line.

Jay Sherman (The Critic): He might say and do silly things, but he's actually a very intelligent character and actually does what's right when it comes to his son.

Gomez Addams (The Addams Family - 90's cartoon): He may seem like an idiot (at least to the neighbors), but he loves his family and would do anything for them. Not to mention the guy can literally make money while TRYING to lose it.
 
I'd say Ulrich's dad from Code Lyoko... but from the two episodes he appeared in... I'm not terribly sure.


Don Wei in Oban Star-Racers is pretty intelligent, just a bit too harsh. Sure, he had his "dumb" moments, but overall, he wasn't a "dumb dad" character. Then again, this is a more serious series, and not comedic like The Simpsons or Fairly OddParents.


Dexter's Dad from Dexter's Laboratory didn't seem all that stupid, just a tad immature at times.
 
Hugh Test (Johnny Test) - Besides his choices in cooking, he's pretty well put together. A bit strict though.

Harold Squarepants (Spongebob) - Although he's a minor character he's been shown to be a smart guy.

Vincent Creecher (Growing Up Creepie) - Creepie's parents are never ever silly or strict. They're very loving and protecting.
 
Let's see...

Dr. Benton Quest (Jonny Quest). The guy's a professor.

Solomon "Doc" Saturday (The Secret Saturdays). Doc seems to be the exact opposite of a moron. He builds cool gadgets and super tech, plus he's married to Drew. Doc is to be envied.

Hugh Test (Johnny Test). Hugh isn't stupid. Just obsessive compulsive and high strung.

If we're counting features, then Cornelius (Lewis) Robinson (Meet the Robinsons). Wilbur's dad grows up to become a master inventor and one of the architects of the Utopian future that he and his family live in. I'd say he's the exact opposite of a dumb dad.
 
Darryl McPherson in the comic strip Baby Blues is a rather competent dad. He plays with the kids, he changes diapers (in the fold-out table in the men's room, even!), he can sort of cook, he's in decent physical shape...
 
I don't think Taz's dad (Hugh) from Taz-Mania is dumb at all. He may sound like Bing Crosby, but Hugh sparks as a caring, responsible parent for Taz.
 
I second that. I think he’s one of the best fathers that I have seen in an animated program. He doesn’t make use of very many clich?s, but there is a black mark against him: the fact that he constantly caves in to his spoiled daughter. But I digress. I can’t seem to recall a single episode in which he behaved idiotically.
