NOT Having It Your Way

Why do you wish they wouldn't do that? Do automatic salters
harm you in some way?

I often (but not always) salt food without tasting it. I tend to go
to just a few restaurants, and I know which of them use enough
salt for me (most of them don't).

I often salt food at home without tasting the finished product,
but I generally know how much salt went into it in the kitchen.

I was too, at first, but really since nobody is forcing anyone to go
there, it's not like it hurts anyone. There are those restaurants where
people insult you, too. People pay good money to go there. I don't
care for them. If this policy is really terrible, people won't
patronize them and they'll go out of business. If not, at least others
are warned away and those who wish to be dictated to can still eat there.

That's the thing, you don't have to shell out the money there. Don't
go. I wouldn't. Vote with your dollars.

For the most part, I do.

Actually, I am so self consious about it that I will often pick
something safe that I don't enjoy all that much just so that I can
avoid special requests. A lot of places will have fish and chips. I am
not big on french fries, though some places have some nice steak
fries. I skip the cole slaw most times though I do taste it. And the
fish is sometimes really good and sometimes giant fish sticks. But
there are no sauces that could be too spicy or have lots of veggies I
don't like.

Now, people who like most things typically have no problem being a
pest about things they really dislike. My sister harasses me all the
time about being afraid to try things. But she will get really upset
if something has a single piece of tomato on it after she said no
tomatoes.

I serve food in a grocery store deli, and I am amazed at how much
people expect me to pick out of their food. I don't like the veggies
in their either, but I take what the give me and pick them out myself.
I don't except the clerk to pick at the food to get me the exact
plate. I know I am pickier than most people, but I do not ask for
nearly as many special request as "normal" people tend to do.

The mexican restaurant is maybe twice a year at most. The chinese
restaurant is frequent, but all I am asking is to skip the peas and
carrots when they make the rice. I'm not asking for extra of anything
else. No substitutions. And they can leave the veggies in the entree,
I will pick those out myself.

I really hate to go out to dinner, especially if it is a new place for
me.

I've done that sometimes with a combo meal. It's not as neat as we do
have to change from plate to plate, but we know it is easier on the
staff, and we both get what we want.

I really try to limit my requests to things that I could not easily
remove such as a sauce, or something that is hard to pick out (small
bits of something).

I sprinkle a teaspoon or two over a chunk of cod before I cook it. It
comes out nice and tender but you don't taste the OJ. I also put a small
pat of butter on top add a teaspoon of water, and wrap it in foil for
the oven..
