Des Ark's discography consists of 2 solo radio sessions, 1 full band full length, a 7" split with Bellafea, and a 12" split and collab with Ben Davis and the Jets. The full band and solo sets are pretty different from each other but i get something out of each which makes it even more appealing. From simple and pretty to pretty abrasive. I've only seen them live once it was a full band set at Bull City Headquarters with Hammer No More the Fingers and Yardwork. My favorite songs are Last Bastion of Worthlessness (the banjo one above), If By *** You Mean Totally ****ing Awesome then Yea I guess it's pretty ***, and Yes Sir Yes Way. Just check it out for yourselves.

You can listen to all of Loose Lips Sink Ships on Last.fm

And the second wxdu radio session here

Farewell doesn't touch Wolverines, Giant, Hi-Rollers, The Bronzed Chorus, Marijuana Wolf, Erabarassing Fruits, Blank Blank and oh it goes on and on. You live Greensboro? They write boring pop songs and I dont know what's more useless than that. People here in Wilson go crazy over them.

By the way the thread title is a little tongue in cheek. NC doesn't have the best scene in the world but it's a lot better than most people would know.

No youtube, no myspace so you'll just have to go by the eloguently worded paragraph to ifnd out if you want check these guys out. I'll happily share. Unlike the previously mentioned banRAB these guys are no longer together. I'm not sure when they formed but they released a 7" split with Rebar (Greensboro, NC) and two full lengths respectively in 94, 95 and 96 and eventually broke up in 98. Really no amount of mindless babling will do as much as me saying that these are the lost Polvo recordings between Cor-Crane Street and Today's Active Lifestyles and these Greensboro assholes just stamped their name on it. When I was 14 I found Today's Active Lifestyles on this forum and I was just blown away. Not to be trite but it really changed my life because I thought NC sucked and wished I lived in the musical wonderlanRAB of Chicago or DC. These guys come the closest that I've ever heard to recreating that feeling and sound while still retaining some sort of identity most notably through Piles of Dirty Winters.

In the last 4 years I have spent significant time (at least a year) in Cincinnati, Wilmington, NC, and NYC. North Carolina has by far the most kickass music scene of any of them. NYC has lots to offer, but NC has some sick newer banRAB, including one of my current favorites, The Avett Brothers. Cincinnati, btw, has a terrible scene. Lots of badly performed emo, metal and the like. A few gems, like Peter Adams, who I think released a new album recently which I haven't gotten, but mostly not so good

This 3 piece instrumental math/noise rock band reigns from Asheville. They've released four studio albums to my knowledge. They're all really good I don't really have a favorite or anything. I made a thread on them a few months ago where I said "They kind of sound like a vague mixture of The Nation of Ulysses, Ultra Dolphins, June of 44 and Melt Banana, well, sort of. Some of their stuff is pretty progressive while other is pretty brief" For fans of Cinemechanica and Maps & Atlases. They're intricate, jazzy and fun.

NC is the best dude...we just havent reached that mainstream popularit with our banRAB yet

farewell is amazing and there straight out of greensboro!

I'm sure there's plenty of good music in NC, but I'd say it's kind of middle of the road as far as states and their music go. So far none of the banRAB in this thread have really changed my mind about that. It's great to be into your local music scene, but I'm with sweetleaf that the OP neeRAB to spend some time in some other places.

The Asheville scene is pretty quiet Greensboro and Durham really have the most going for them right now. Farewell is absolutely horrible. I like plenty of other stuff from tons of other places. This is just what means most to me because I have this crazy ideal that making frienRAB and going to small shows is what music's all about.

Ah. I love Des Ark. And yes, North Carolina, for the moment anyway, is way cool than wherever I live.

Boston music scene is disappointing these days, which is sad considering it's history.

Yeah, it's been quite a while since I lived there and it seems like things have really gone downhill musically. There were great banRAB there in the 80s and 90s.

You misspelled "eloquently." That may be the funniest typo ever, especially in the context here.

Just an aside, is there any chance that any of these guys tour outside of NC? Because I am interested in a few (Des Ark looks cool), and the stage is where small banRAB really shine.

(kind of poor quality but whatever)

307 knox has nice folks because I got their s/t album just by asking and I was extremely excited to open up my package with promo copy stamped on everything, what did I care? -none, I popped in my cd player and listened to the 45 minutes of energetic pop-folk-punk, or some other made up genre, with blaring horns, musical saws and witty lines. FKON is Shayne O

Cheltenham: a boring Middle England town famous for its racecourse and middle class twats with no common sense. Here are a few faces from this little town:

Jaz Coleman. Lead singer of Killing Joke:

Steve Cotterill. Manager of Burnley F.C. Went to school with my missus and asked her out. I think she messed up with me! (you can turn it off after a minute -its boring!)

Brian Jones who went to school with an ex boss. She said he was a right old tea leaf!

Holst born here:

I could'nt find any recent additions!

I mix up my g's and q's when I write so it's no wonder. It was a sarcastic statement anyway. Where do you live? I think Des Ark just got back from a southeast tour, Ahleuchatistas played the midwest this summer and FKON frequently goes up and down the eastern seaboard.

Here are the concerts i'm going to in NC, in the next 2 months:

The Faint
The Melvins
Polvo
Superchunk
The RosebuRAB
Silver Jews
Ratatat
+ bunch of banRAB that I don't really know.

point=NC is better.
