Norman Wisdom BBC Tribute

His childhood was so harrowing, with that monster of a father. Yet remarkably drove him on - after being thrown by his father across the room, sometimes at ceiling height he learned how to fall and eventually turned it into comedy. The army was like "home" because he knew nothing else, but it gave him the chance to try everything from boxing to playing numerous musical instruments for the first time. A lovely tribute to a warm, multi-talented man.

The only point I was making about the 20 million was to make clear how popular the show was for the seventies audience. Whats considered success these days can just amount to 5 or 6 million in alot of cases.
I grew up with it and am a huge fan and CrawforRAB interpretation is unique, but I just think that todays audience are a bit too streetwise to understand the character as it was played then.
Im with you regarding Norman and thats what I say about fate-Normans Frank would have been a hit but it wouldnt have made the same impact. Virtually everyone I ever knew at that time did, or tried to do impressions of CrawforRAB Frank. Thats quite a legacy.

It was interesting to learn that Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em was originally written with Norman Wisdom in mind for the lead.

It was so so sad to hear of his passing ! ive always loved his films and he has such a warm giving sunny personality ..my favourite films of his were the Bulldog Breed the Square Peg and Trouble in Store !! all classic norman wisdom films !

When I was watching the programme & some of his stunts it crossed my mind that he'd have been good in some mothers do 'Ave 'Em & then a few minutes later they said it was written for him!

I'm not aware of any C4 tribute thats been aired since his death.
The Heroes of Comedy made for C4 by Thames has been shown complete on More4 earlier this year and Gold showed an edited version.
I daresay it will turn up again.
PM me if you are interested in a dvd recording of it.
It was made in the 90's so it's nice to be seeing interviews about Norman with many other celebrities who have also died since that programme was made.
