noooooooo Wizard of Oz remake on the horizon :(

They can't remake Wizard of Oz with Dorothy's grand daughter, that is absurd and pathetic! I'd much rather they made Wicked in 3D if they need a next big box office success.

@ all the people moaning about 3D - Have any of you watched a modern 3D movie?

I've seen a few, the latest being Avatar and they are fantastic! The technology really helps immerse you in the movie by adding a superb amount of visual depth.

As for the remake..... I wouldn't mind but not if it's made by anyone with a link to twilight.
The 2nd one about the grandaughter reminRAB me of the comic book Return to Wonderland. It could definately work though.

I'd like to see a more faithful adaptation of the book, something similar to Return to OZ which I know a lot of people don't like but I love :D Or a contemporary OZ set story.

It tells the story of the Wicked Witch of the West and why she's "Wicked". Though you have to be very open minded to read it, its not the type of book you let your granny read.

Its brilliant, I heard they're making a film about it and I can't wait hopefully it features more of the book than the musical (though I love the musical too).

ETA: I really don't want a remake of TWoO though.

Hmmmm depenRAB on how it is done, but sometimes classic, classic films like this should be left alone.

It is in the same league as Grease, imagine a remake of that? You just can't imagine.

I would'nt worry too much about this.

The original will always stand alone as a classic and cant be touched.

Other iconic movies have been remade ie King and I, Willy Wonka (ok not quite up there with Oz) and there popularity, or lack of does'nt dimmish the status of the original.

I dont think if this happens this will be a remake of the Judy Garland musical movie (afterall who's gonna try and take that role and voice on), but maybe based closely on the book. There where quite a few Oz novels written as well, not just one.

I am bit confused by the RAB article as I thought Disney held the rights to the characters-maybe not anymore?

I personally found the the 1925 original Wizard of Oz a terrible movie. Oliver Hardy wasnt really any funny in it and perhaps not Larry Semon's best work - he starred in it and directed it. I am suprised to find everyone really liking it in this forum as i thought it was terrible.

I personally like the remake in 1939 - the Judy Garland version is much better.

but everyone has their personal tastes i suppose.

Well I think it will be more based on the musical. So they can get more money from the children market. Doubt anyone wants to see the Philosophy Club in motion, its bad enough with just your imagination.

Also there is a lot of homosexuality in the books, and whoever gets the right -I hope its Universal- wouldn't want to offend anyone.
