noooooooo Wizard of Oz remake on the horizon :(

IMHO - and OTTOMH - Scarface, The Fly, Ocean's 11, Planet Of The Apes, The Thing, Cape Fear. All remakes, all improve on the original version. If you'd said '...or as good as the orginal', then there's a whole load more I could include, especially when it comes to Foreign to English remakes.

I'm going to be controversial and say Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, because even though I like the Gene Wilder one, the Burton/Depp version is wayyy better because it sticks closer to the book and some of the lines in the script are exactly as printed in the book.

The second one about her granddaughter going back is nothing. It's been done before with Return to Oz which of course featred Dorothy and was written by Baum.

The other I'm not so sure bout. There is a film version of the stage Musical "Wicked" planned which centres arounf The Wicked Witch at school, It's possible it's that and they've got the story wrong.

Have they not got any new ideas lately? All this remaking is really spoiling the originals, u cannot beat the originals! And yes I think it most probably will be in 3d unfortunately.

Wizard of Oz is a prime example of a movie crying out for a re-imagining!

Yes,the 1939 classic is a landmark movie. The film is a technical achievement and true kiRAB classic, amongst other things. However, the original is not only a remake, but an interpretation of a novel. It's also an highly imaginative big budget movie that could be recreated in so many different ways.Return to Oz showed that the whole Oz universe can be used in various ways.Nobody knows what a creative mind and new technology could do for Oz.

The influence of the most famous W.O.Z movie will never be beaten, that is for certain.

Tragic!

They'll probably make it in 3D to cash in, and it'll be sexed up a bit more. Perhaps with OTT CGI like the poor effort which is Burton's Alice In Wonderland.

I havent seen it :)
Maybe if they did a Return To Oz type sequel it wouldnt be too bad - but the original classic should be left alone.

Will Dorothy be a troubled teen from a one parent family? Will the lion be a gay black man fearing to come out? Will the tin man teach us about climate change?

What's the problem?
The original is a classic, nothing will take away from that.

I don't understand the hatred for remakes, yes most of them are bad but it takes nothing away from the original.

Who wants to bet Tim Burton will direct, with Johnny Depp shoehorned into any male role, and a wacky colour scheme to boot?

Film industry in creatively bankrupt shocker!

Isn't it about time for a Harry Potter series reboot yet? Perhaps a remake of The Dark Knight?
