Noob with a question regarding touch screen phones.

Ok, I'm a total noob when it comes to these newer phones as there's so damn many of them now. I'm looking to get a new phone probably end of the year or early next year. I would love some suggestions of which phones that I should consider. I apologize ahead of time for my noobyness. :embaresse

Criteria:

-GSM
-touch screen
-under $400 CDN/USD
-quad band
-wifi
-I won't be using it much for music or pics/vids.

I'm not gunna get a dataplan, so obviously i'll be buying an unlocked phone. I'm in the Toronto area so preferably this must be available locally either retail or private dealer. My friends have suggested some HTC or Samsung phones thus far but would love to hear more recommendations. Thanks!

I am shopping and have similar criteria except that I want a keypad of some kind. This should fit the bill for you as it is touchscreen only. It doesn't have 3G, though - if you want the potential to get 3G give Rogers more of your money (please don't haha) then you'd want to go for the slighter larger and more expensive 5800 XM
 
oooh..thanks for the reply. It's good to hear that others are in the same boat and doing research like I am. For me, I don't do a lot of texting so a qwerty keyboard is not essential for me. Although I might be inclined to text more if there was at least a touch screen qwerty.

Seems like a cool and inexpensive phone that you mentioned so thanks for the recommendation. And yeah, not gunna pay for 3g at this time...I don't really need it either.
