Hey, I just picked a Nokia N8 and I'm having issues with being able to turn off the 3g when I'm at home and using wifi. I'm able to connect to the ovi store through wifi but I can't connect to the internet without turning on the 3g(?) back on. I'm with Rogers if that helps? Thanks

what are you using to connect to the internet? i would check the browser settings to make sure that it defaults to the internet setting. then go into the destinations and set your priority so that wifi is above your 3g.

im with rogers and for some reason i HAD to use 3g instead of wifi to connect to the ovi store for the first time. There is an update for the ovi store (on the phone) i believe. So just eat the MB on the first connection to the ovi store

hope this helps

On my N95-3 I used Psiloc's "Connect" to control when it would use 3G and when it would use WiFi.

Anyone know if Psiloc's "Connect" works with the N8?

I would really like to know if it works correctly on the N8 as I will shortly be travelling out of the country. With "Connect" on the N95 I would have been certain that I'd never incur any roaming data charges, want to know if the same would be true with the N8 and "Connect".

I contacted Psiloc but they only gave me information about their WorldTraveler application on the N8 and didn't answer my question about Connect on the N8.

Turning off 3G does not disable data connections through the celluar network. 3G is just a type of network and it is not data only.

I would try putting your home screen widgets into offline mode and also close any open data applications. Then go into Connection Manager and tell your phone to disconnect from your Rogers Internet access point. Go into your Destinations list and check to see if the Wi-Fi priority is set higher than your Rogers cellular data connection. Also check inside the Connectivity settings to check to see if the phone is set to switch to Known Wi-Fi networks while already using the internet. Then trying loading your web browswer up. Don't bother playing around with any "3G" settings. Those 3G settings have nothing to do with whether or not your internet usage will use wi-fi or the Rogers network.

You don't need it with the N8. Setup destinations to use wfi as number 1 and whatever phone network data you are using as number 2. As soon as I park my car at home my phone connects to my wifi.
