Non stop cough and nasal drainage

I will sum this up as quick as possible. My wife quit smoking almost 13 years ago and for the past 2 years has had an extremly bad cough that continues all day every day, along with nasal drainage. Of course we have been to multiple doctors and have had xrays and ct scans. The xray and ct scan showed COPD and emphasyma along with a case of pnemonia, when it originally started. We or she has been through multiple antibiotics and is on Advair, Albuteral and multiple allergy items including both over the counter and perscribed items. Nothing helps at all and I feel my or our hands are tied and I feel bad watching her suffer. She literally pees her pants because the coughing is so out of control and we cant find that magic button for just a little relief. She has had several breathing tests and they thought she was pretending not to blow and was at the very bottom of the chart even after treatments. And yes we have even been down the reflux road too. Can you give us any advice? Thank you.

No not at all, as a matter of fact my PCP wants to put me on that. I have declined thus far due to the cough factor. That is all we need is another cough in the house. Thanks

You wife should ask her doctor for a good cough medicine. Hycodan worked well for me. It is a synthetic codiene cough med. Think it has another name now, but, the doctor will know.

Also, Halls cough drops work good too. Get the kind with Menthol.

I know you would rather find the cause, however, maybe one of the above might give some relief.

Another thought, does your wife have Whooping Cough? Did they test her for that? I am in my 70s and had whooping cough along with pneumonia last year. I had a bad case of whooping cough as a small child. Immunity does not last a life time. There are many cases of whooping cough these days.

To Misty 800, no doctor will give cough medicine here, besides what we buy at the drug store. They say in studies "placebos" work better. As for the cough drops, I wish we owned stock or a company that manufactures them. We go through 3-4 bags a week. As for the whooping cough, no that has never been brought up? We will look into that. Thank you.
