Non rooters

The vast majority of users have no idea what root access means and couldn't care less... they don't join forums like this to stay educated bout developments. I'd we represent less than 10% of all G1 users. Most people are happy with what they have and dont feel a need to change anything, nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, there are a lot of people (like me) who like mess around and fiddle with everything sometimes for no reason... I dont even know how or why this argument is even happening, seems a little stupid because:
Fact: A stock G1 = plenty good
But if you need Tether/Bluetooth file transfer/Overclock/Theme/Custom Rom etc etc etc; you need root.
Therefore,
Fact: Root makes you phone better
Its pretty simple, I dont get what the argument is??

Actually, no, I don't: I have no need for tethering, don't want hokey themes, and see no use in pushing caches off to the SDcard. I have just over a dozen applications installed and the phone never lags. What exactly would I be gaining besides epenis bragging rights on a web forum?

Well, for you, I agree -- rooting has little if any value because you don't need or want what root provides. I think that's exactly the point some of us are making.

If you don't need or want its benefits/features, then root < nonroot.

I do have to admit though... the Hero image I'm using doesn't support multimedia messaging. I can only send videos etc. if they're in an e-mail. So there are of course drawbacks to consider too... more than just speed or whatever.

If somone thinks that they are better or has a bigger ""epenis" because they are rooted, then, well, they are probably retarded. It don't take much to gain root. I dunno why you guys have that mentality. Only reason why I got root is cause I had some free time, and I wanted to play around with it. Frankly, thats one of the biggest reasons this phone is so awesome, and personally I think your missing out if you arent. I dont actually need tether, themes and all the rest either. But I do LIKE to have em though. Kinda like driving a Zonda F with 640 hp (yea I'm a real car nut, like to make car analogies ) even if you only use a max of 200 hp on the streets.

Have you compiled Android from the GIT sources yet? If not, why? You have the spare time, and it's the very definition of "playing around" with cutting edge stuff, so why not do it?

The Zonda pales in comparison to the Koenigsegg CCX, which hits the 0-62mph run .4 seconds quicker than the Zonda (and looks better doing so). Opting for the CCXR, one gets a biofueled monster with 1,000bhp and 780lb/ft of torque on tap.

I have some free time, but not that much. And to be honest I dont even know what "GIT sources" even means.... but at least I did something with it

"...looks better doing so" I totally disagree. Its the best looking car in the world imo. The Keoniggggsseeeesssggeeseeeggg may be a faster car (in a straight line), but I think the Zonda's overall package is better. Its more balanced and does not require you to be Lewis Hamilton in order for you to drive it and not die.

Zonda = a work of art, precise, balanced, a katana.
CCXR = brute force, get outa my way or i'll eat u up, a sledgehammer
I love em both...

In actuality, the Zonda is actually considerably faster. ~10 secs around the Numburgring (etrernity in the racing world). LOL even the GTR is faster for crying out loud. HP dosn't really mean THAT much

GIT is the utility (for lack of a better term) Google opted to use to track changes to the Android source code. One checks out the source code from a GIT repository and builds it locally, deploying on their own phone. It takes about an hour and a half to build Android from the source and is automated; you could start a build at night and it'd be done before you woke up in the morning.

I'm curious as to why people don't build Android from the source code, especially when these same people have no apparent issue with flashing multiple builds that other people have done.

Surely you mean Jenson Button, as Lewis Hamilton is old and busted with a mere 9 points in this season's championship.

The CCXR also runs off of biofuel, making it significantly more impressive than the petrol-guzzling Zonda.

If Nurburgring times matter that much, shouldn't you be lusting over the Radical SR8 instead of the Zonda? :P

Also 7:27.82 -vs- 7:33.6 != ~10 seconds.

Ehh... who cares what it runs on biofuel or petrol. Hell even diesel works for me, if it has what it takes. The 40 or so Zonda's in the world isn't gonna change much of our current environmental predicament and neither is a few dozen bio-fueled koenigs. Moreover, I dont believe a car is more "impressive" when powered by bio-fuel, all you need is a special gas tank, fuel pumps, filters and a suitable engine management system. I'll be more impressed with a hydrogen powered keonig, now that'd be cool The newest time for the Zonda is actually 7:24.7, the one you stated was from '07. And like I said before, I really am not interested in the extremes of anything. My lust for the Zonda comes from the way the it looks, the way it sounds, its amazing attention to detail, the interior, the way it sounds, the bright, airy c0ckpit pretty much all made of glass and did i mention the way it sounds? The radical don't do all of that for me... the Zonda does, and the Keonig comes pretty close . Arguing about cars is pretty fruitless, its very much, to each his own, and I respect your choice. And FYI, Nurburgring times DO matter that much, it is the definitive ruler for measuring how fast a car is...
Sorry for the hijacking...

I don't root, because I want to keep my warranty thank you. It's an expensive phone. Beside, I'm from Australia where Root and Rooting have a different meaning to your usage. See http://www.koalanet.com.au/australian-slang.html#R
