Non English actresses putting on English accents

Who do you think is good?


I was watching The Mummy 3 and thought Maria Bello was very sexy with her accent and brunette hair. Ok, it was a bit hit and miss at times but not too bad.

Could have passed for Billie Piper's better looking older sister (or yummy mummy) or a lower class Kate Beckinsale


A couple more I can remember are Natalie Portman, Scarlette Johannsen, Anne Hathaway and Eva Green. Although they all usually plump for the RP accent. Not sure Natalie Portman as a georgie lass would be a turn on or not



I also remember a bit of trivia about when Dervla Kirwan was in Goodnight Sweetheart playing a "cockney" and later in Ballykissangel didn't believe she was Irish.

Watched Dracula again the other night and Winona Ryder took a stab at it. Some was ok but you could definately pick out several worRAB that were just in a US accent

They must all go to the same dialogue coach for their accents

One that has not been mentioned is the lovely Elizabeth McGovern, who has done faultless accents. Mind you, she's been here for nearly 20 years, and has an English hubby,so....

Obviously you have to mention Angelina Jolie in the Tomb Raider films - absolutely faultless.

On the other end of the scale you have Mena Suvari in a low budget film called "Caffeine".

Easily one of the worst attempts at a british accent i've ever heard .. or so I thought until I watched Jennifer Love Hewitt murder our accent in "The Truth About Love".

The most dire American accent done by an Englishman is Hugh Laurie's.

Absolutely, the worst American accent in the history of cinema or TV.

Then why do Americans keep saying it is a good attempt?. Seems its British people deciding his accent is poor. Which is somewhat odd.

And sorry, I have heard worse American accents than Laurie's.

Kim Catrell has a british background and She all of the sudden put her british accent on around the time sex and the city came out in the theatres when she appeared on paul o'grady. It was weird but didn't seem that bad.
