"Nokia Symbian^3 browser refresh delayed until Feb 2011?"

That's unfortunate. Though to be honest I don't use the standard browser at all. I have been exclusively using Opera Mobile and it has been pretty good. Only time I have used the standard Symbian browser is for youtube. That being said the new browser better be pretty damn good. They definitely gave themselves enough time to work on it.

Oh, and it'll include a portrait qwerty and a split screen qwerty.

My question is, why is it going to take almost a year (since the N8 was announced)?

That sucks for early N8 adopters. Just confirms my belief that you have to wait at least 3 months to purchase any of Nokia's new phones. It will cost you less and you will get more.

Ha, true. By March 2011, you'll (hopefully, barring another delay) have a new browser and portrait, split screen qwerty, and you'll be able to grab an N8 for $100-$150 less than what they're going for now.

For N8 owners' sake, with that kind of delay, that browser better make the iOS mobile browser look downright kludgy.

I've said it in other threads, but the browser probably won't come around until Qt 4.7.3 is released.

I'm hoping, at the very least we get Swype before then. Beta Labs tweeted they should have Swype in beta this week if there's no major bugs found.

The browser is usable, but we definitely need a new one. I really can only see Qt 4.7.3 being the delaying factor.

Honestly, I'm not that much of a fan of the iOS browser, in terms of the UI.

IMHO, it needs to be on par with the N900 browser.

I definitely recommend people give serious though about buying the N8 early in this stage. If you can live with the quirks and the downsides, then sure. But don't go buy it and ***** about what it lacks when you should know this by now. You should have known it before the official release, and you should definitely know it after all the reviews that have come out.

That may be true. I'm not sure how much experience you have with Nokia. But, its been an ongoing Love/Hate relationship for most of us the past 2 years.

I downloaded that graphic, and ran some sharpening filters, and from what I can make out on that list:
50+
enhancements:
- Split screen text input
- Portrait QWERTY
- Swype
- New Browser ** with *** and speed
- And many, many more ...

this is true but the n8 is a solid device out of the gate, does every android run froyo, how long did iphone users have to wait for basic additions, i understand the frustration but we seem not to judge platforms fairly anymore.
n8 is solid i got mine for 415.00 from dell and dont regret it at all, im happy to see them making an effort.

Yeah, but a new browser, along with other purported issue fixes and add-ons, isn't coming along "soon" anymore as everyone was saying.

Also the announcements, and the company's strategy as I've read them (hey, I'm a business news junkie) today only seem to further muddle things. If their intent was to further confuse their customers, I think they've succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.

Anyway, Call of Duty Black Ops calls....

I'm not bashing the N8. And I'm not judging Nokia compared to anything other mfg, just comparing to Nokia's own past history. In the end, its costing Nokia money. I've owned exactly 1 (one) other phone (palm pre) in the last 4 years. I've given Nokia every opportunity to keep me as a customer. But, I refuse to spend money on a newly released item. The N8 will be better and cheaper in 3-4 months.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice......
