Nokia Software Updater Issue

I'm having an issue with the NSU. I have an N73 and I'm trying to update the firmware but it won't detect the phone. It hangs at step 2 "Detecting phone"

I've tried to just run the program without the phone even plugged in. Theoretically it should just say "can't detect phone" if it's not plugged in right? But it just hangs.

With the older versions of NSU, it would hang at startup. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling and did the same with PC Suite as well. The only thing I can think of is it being the Antivirus program blocking it, but I disabled the antivirus and also added the program to the trusted applications list.

Anyone have any other ideas? Or having the same problem?

i have an old FW 3.0618.0.2 and was wondering if i do an update online with the nokia software updater, will i lose all my info and contacts and all my data on the phone? Can someone please answer this question?
thanks

To defcon:
Yes, when you update ur phone, you will lose all data on your phone. before you update ur phone, u'd better save all date through ur computer(nokia pc suite.) good luck

will i also lose all my contacts in the phone memory? cause it's a hassle to put multple numbers in the contact. or will the contact still be on the phone? i just don't want to transfer all the sim contacts on the phone and then having to rearrange all the numbers. thnaks

how do i do the FW upgrade with the nokia software updater? i installed the new nokia suite. what else do i need to do beside clicking the software updater icon? do i need to change anything else? Sorry this is all new to me! Pretty noob about it. i just don't wanna lose all my contact info on the phone, it's a hassle to put it back in with multiple numbers in one contact

Just go to the Backup icon on the pc suite and choose to back up all the data first. Then when you are finished updating the software you restart the phone and then reconnect to pc suite, go to Backup again and choose the reinstall option.
