Okay, in the spirit of the original N95-1 release, I have read faithful information from Rcadden through his blog, that a 850/1900 WCDMA version is set to hit in August. Please post sightings and price info when you see a 850/1900 WCDMA version of the N95.

First let me take a moment to congratulate Rcadden for achieving blogger relations status with Nokia. That's as big if not bigger than United Global Services status (reference: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=504) for which I shed a tear when I received the super secret call.

So take a moment to watch driving with guru to hear of the confirmed rumor.

Also for reference it all drop on hofo here:

When I read this I literally had to hold back tears. However, with mixed emotion because I may be relocating for a couple years to either the UK or Australia. We'll see.

How's that? How do you change the UMTS 2100 to 1900/850 with a firmware update? How does my CD burner turn into a DVD burner when I install Windows Vista over Windows XP?

Because from my sources, every N95 has all UTMS bands....it is the firmware itself the determines which one to enable and which to disable.

Therefore, once the US variant gets released, our current N95 units should be able to be converted to a US one as well by flashing the same US variant firmware.

Get it now?

I really hope this is true. Im getting my n95 tommorow (according to FedEx) and I would hate for a US3g version to come out after getting mine at msrp. Oh well....mabe the all black version will be out and I can upgrade for a smal price (sell mine, buy new).

Anyway.....real question, anyone know what the 3g part of teh chp looks like and see if they can verify what chip the n95 uses?

Applications like the Video Center and Symella would be a lot better with 3G. Sure, browsing is about the same on EDGE, but for any kind of downloading, EDGE is subpar. Using 3G with SoonR would be incredible too. Any song I want from my hard drive at WLAN speeds when I'm on the road or just outside of a wireless network? That's almost enough to make me want to switch to Cingular. Yeah, I said it.

I hope nokia doesn't waste its "American 3G" on its N95.

They need to do this to a E-Series like the E61i or the E90.

/end e-series fanboy

Why the hell would they include a chip for all UTMS bands, sell it in America (Nokia flagship stores), and only keep it 2100MHz?

Because they didn't include such a chip.

I'm warming up my "laugh in your face" action for when August passes and no "N95-2" comes out.

*hovers mouse over report button* Not sure if I want to report this yet...

Gotta love the noobs like you who rag on with the "Another N95 thread". Why don't you grow some balls and make a N95 Superthread and stop complaining about it?

Edit: Sorry, I re-read your posted and realize it's sarcasm So yeah, a N95 Super Thread would be something.

@mooninite
Why not? It's much cheaper to design one chipset and disable everything through software is it not? Motorola has practiced this for ages, why can't Nokia jump on the same technique?

Agreed. I will probably disable 3G when the phone needs to last a little longer on a charge. Well, not really unless it can't make it through the day.

Video calling is network dependent, so unless Cingular added video calling feature, it would not matter.

For all EMEA and APAC 3G users, how pervasive is video calling? I always wondered as I have never seen a video caller in the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Australia. Is the cost insane? Is it tied to a separate charge from data?
