Nokia N8 Unlocked-Unbranded now available in Canada

newegg.ca has been very communicative. They sent me an email when my card was verified, when it was charged, one to confirm the SO (ship out), and another with the Purolator tracking number today. All within 24 hours, which is awesome and very twitch-inducing. I was surprised to see that it shipped out of Mississauga, ON, which is not far from me.. I would have climbed in the car had I known. The only problem is the tracking number newegg emailed me doesn't get show any status info on Purolator's site. But maybe I just need to be patient.

Hey slashd0t, did your package go to a Purolator sorting hub before landing at your doorstep?
 
Well we got the info here, where to buy it, we all contributed to how the shipping went, it would also make sense if a little bit of the receiving end, and how it went, would be posted here also. I will be posting my thoughts tomorrow on the exchange process, which would be of interest of some people. After all, some people want some assurance that newegg.ca for example, is a good retailer in handling returns.

If I got a good phone, I would have moved on to the other appropriate threads.
 
they should probably alter their manual to say that it leaves the factory fully charged, it would be more accurate, no guarantee that it arrives fully charged :)
 
I don't like ShopBLT, because they will not accept returns under any condition as listed with the Noka N8 listing: "No Returns Or Exchanges.". If your phone is dead out of box, what do you do? Might be hard to send that US phone to Nokia USA for warranty work, when you're shipping from a Canadian address. Might have to use those mail-receiving service if needed.

Newegg's Canada site, just got the grey and green models in. It's 550, but they do allow exchanges, and I have always been happy ordering from those guys. Free shipping is included.

I just ordered the grey one, and choose a faster shipping of Purolator International (guaranteed on 2nd business day) for an extra 15. Hopefully should get it by friday! Can't wait, and I've been waiting since last April when it was first announced.

Let's see, it's going to replace my current Noka dumb phone, my Garmin GPS, my Palm TX organizer, and my Sony subcompact camera. 4 devices in 1. That's never going to happen again.
 
Yes.. I got the shipping notice from Newegg last night around 4PM MST and it arrived here in Edmonton about an hour ago :)...

I ordered an "in stock" phone from SN Traders last year. Turns out that it wasn't really in stock. They didn't know when they'd get more stock so I cancelled the order, and bought the phone somewhere else.

A couple weeks later I get an email from SN Traders saying that my order has shipped. I email them back reminding them that the order was cancelled and told them to recall their package. No response from them.

The package arrived at my place a few days later, but I refused it and told the courier to ship it back. Sent another email about the issue. Still no response from SN Traders. Called them and got voicemail.

My credit card statement arrived next month and it showed a charge from SN Traders. Email them again and reminded them to refund me. Still no response.

I had to get the credit card company to refund me. It took months.

Very sub-par service from SN Traders.
 
I bought mine from Newegg.CA and it was DOA. Phoned them and they were great with handling the RMA procedure. I re-boxed it over the weekend and will be taking it to UPS today with the UPS label Newegg emailed me so the return is paid by Newegg.

Newegg have already emailed me the tracking number for the replacement they're sending me. I had the option of waiting 'till they got my returned N8 then they'd send me the replacement, but I chose to have them charge my credit card for a second N8 which they will refund once they receive the DOA N8.

So far I have been very pleased with how they are handling things, though they do need more paper work with the RMA than I had expected.

I emailed them late last Friday night, and the response from them was waiting for me in my email first thing when I got up.

Thanks Yarrenbool, as I did not know that the UPS label that they sent me, means that the shipment is paid by them. I see the return location is Mississauga (within Canada that is), which should speed up the return.
 
Yeah, good luck with that $800 price. I just don't understand why Nokia USA won't bill a Canadian credit card and ship to the USA so I can come over and pick it up. Seriously. VISA: It's everywhere I want to be, fools!

Guess I'll wait for Amazon, who have no compunction about taking my money. In terms of price, I'm not 100% sure that we're going to see the same plunging price with the N8 that we did with the N97. If there's demand at the current price, and there seems to be, then the price will stay at 549 until there isn't.
 
Yes, as soon as I found I could not turn it on I plugged it into the 2mm Nokia charger.

NOTHING HAPPENS!

Absolutely nothing, screen does not light up, still can't turn it on.

Does it require the SIM card?

What should happen when you turn on an N8 without either a SIM card or a microSDHC card?

Well my order says shipped out from LAX on friday and still hasn't been updated from either Newegg or Purolator, so i am kinda curious as to what exactly is happening with it.

Got to ask, but are you sure that you had the correct email address? But never the less, they should have refunded you when the package was returned, or at least contact you.
 
Thanks slashd0t! My phone is still at newegg, waiting for Purolator to pick it up, along with the ton of other stuff newegg must ship out every day. Looking forward to hearing more about your thoughts and experiences with the N8.
