Nokia N8 Unlocked-Unbranded now available in Canada

i see that everyone is posting the problems here, not the sites or places where to buy it cheaper in Canada, cmon place u'r problems on the N8 problems thread, admin pls sort this confusion here.

Personally this is great info to have, seeing as many of us are ordering from the same place, if there is an issue with a batch or something then this is great info to have as i will def be looking for these things when i get mine from newegg this week.

I'm on the other side of the country, as it lists it arrived in Vancouver at 5:55 AM this morning via Toronto, than their Hamilton sort facility. Should get it today!!! Looks like that by 2nd business day guarantee is going to be met by Purolator.

Sorry, that won't help as neither Amazon.CA and probably Dell.CA will never carry it and neither Dell.Com nor Amazon.Com will ship cell phones to Canada.

So we Canadians have to end up being ripped off by our countrymen or find a US friend to buy it on their credit card then mail it to us.
.

I placed my order and it should ship Monday.
If I do get a defective phone, we will all know Newegg Canada received a bad batch. This info is perfect here.

Things are good and bad here.

Purolator delivered my Nokia N8 about an hour ago.:clapping:

I read the manual (on line .pdf) and it says the phone arrives fully charged so I decided to turn it on right away, no SIM card as I don't want to switch over right away.

NOTHING HAPPENS!

Is my N8 DOA?

Does the N8 require a SIM card and/or a microSDHC installed to be able to turn it on?

Not panicking yet, but am worried.

I bought from newegg.ca, and went through the RMA. After two weeks now, the second N8 is holding up great. The more I use this phone everyday, the more I like it.

Using Wind Mobile's network here in Vancouver, and getting great reception, and quite impressed by some of the 3G and 3.5G speeds I get.

The build quality of this device is more appreciated each day. It's like a fine piece of craftsmanship. I don't use a case, so I can appreciate the feel of the device. I really like the rounded edges. The front button is so subtle, and yet so precise in turning on the device, along with the nice single tap to unlock the screen. Even that sliding unlock/lock button on the side is very much appreciated.

The UI can be sluggish. Hopefully improved with the upcoming updates. I think the calendar/notes/contacts need a UI interface update. A simple app like Notes, does not even support kinetic scrolling.

Personally I buy from amazon.com and have it shipped to a UPS store along the American border, it's an hour drive and 5$ a package, but a whole lot cheaper :) been doing it for years.

If you haven't tried yet i'd plug it into the charger anyways :)

Mines been out for delivery all day :P I've watched the Fedex guy drive and the DHL but no purolator yet ( home office is on the front of the house i'm not sitting on the front porch waiting :) )

Here's an update.. My N8 just arrived and so far is way better than I expected it to be.. (I'm a bitter N97 owner).. Very responsive!

Yeah the more i look the more i think BLT might be the way to go, kinda a bummer if they make me go through the hassle of confirming my ID and all that jazz seeing as my mailing address will be different then my billing address, but oh well sometimes the things we have to do as canadians. Also why on earth are they a hundred bucks cheaper then pretty much anyone?

Sadly we do it with everything, Books, DVD's, computers, bike part, car parts and more. It sucks to have such a huge price difference, i'd say it's tarrifs and stuff but it isn't because I don't pay any extra duties bringing any of it across the border. They always throw out that market size argument but i think thats BS.. my winter tires were 180$ each in canada.. 80$ each off tirerack.com.. saved 400$ buying them in the states... they're the SAME TIRE!

Well with so many getting them as such from one retailer it would seem that maybe they did in fact receive a bad batch.. hopefully mine is fine when i receive it this week. So far i have been looking as form what i have seen at least being sold in canada newegg has the best price.
