Nokia N76 Announced!!!!

Mobileburn too, has a bit more detail. Frankly, looks very weird to me. I mean.. that Razr lip just gives me the shivers.. N75 looks still better to me. Oh and I am having wet dreams about N800 already (have the 770 and love it!)

BS. Cingular's 3G IS up across the boards, they just announced that they have 160 markets live. They already have 4-5 regular phones and THREE smartphones that work on it. I'd say that makes Nokia late to the game.

Blogged, leave a comment if you're equally feeling the shaft.

well I am wondering if this was announced as the N75 is a Cingular special, but Nokia can go ahead and get the same form factor / specs out on other networks. I know Cingular is dragging their feet (as always) on the N75.

Great find, btw!!!

A successor to the N75 when the N75 hasn't even been released yet?! This newly announced phone is obviously the final nail in the coffen for the N75. What a shame, as I too prefer the N75's appearance. This N76 looks to much like the dispicable RAZR to me.

I'll get some pictures of it tomorrow at CES, along with the others.

All reports have been that the N75 delay was due to the phone locking up, not due to Cingular. So sure, if you want to guarantee you kill Nokia's U.S. chances, have them bring out a fancy high-tech but unreliable phone prematurely.

OK so you say that Nokia cannot manufacture a phone with a proven OS just yet, without it locking up consistently? I'll bet that its being tested with branding. There is NO mention if Cingular is trying to get this N75 to work with their Media offerings (TV, Radio, Video ETC) so we dont know WHY its locking up. I've read the threads in the Cingular forums. I still disbelieve its entirely Nokia's fault. Remember how the N80 was also going to have UMTS for 1900mhz band? Well that also didnt make it . Since the 6620 being released (A phone that made it everywhere else before Cingular released it mind you) I have not seen a symbian OS smartphone that made it through their testing.

Dont you find it strange that 2 different models & designs of the WM5 platforms made it through with barely a hitch?

It's a new form-factor, which therefore required new hardware. Cingular does carry the E62 or something like it, which is Series 60. My guess, and it's just a guess, is that they screwed up the N75 board-layout up and haven't been able to get it fixed quickly. That would be consistent with the intransigence of the problem and the time it takes to fix; hardware takes a lot longer than software to rev.

Do I find it strange that LG, Motorola and Samsung all can get through the Cingular process but Nokia can't? Do I find it strange that WM5 can but Series 60 can't? Not strange, just annoying; it suggests to me that the problem is Nokia.

I for one could not be more upset about this news. 3 new phones and not a single one has US 3G bands on it. Well, technically 2 new phones. And both are successors to previous phones.

Does anyone else remember this PAST SUMMER when Nokia's new CEO made a huge deal about how they were going to focus more on the US market and try to gain their market share? Anyone?

And look how the rest of the year turned out. You have the monstrosity that is the N95, and everything else announced has been Music Editions or Internet Editions, different firmware on the same hardware.

So now at Nokia World they go on and on about how Nokia's Lifestyle is all about connectivity and blah blah blah and they can't freakin get a US 3G phone out?! Are you freaking kidding me?! HTC can toss ALL THREE WORLDWIDE UMTS BANDS in one phone, Samsung now has 3 PHONES that have UMTS 850/1900, and LG has 2. There's a new Treo out now that has it, and yet we have yet to see ANY Nokia, s40 or s60, successfully come to for us.

I love my Nokias, really I do, but this is freakin pathetic. To be shown up on the technology that you're known for dominating in the rest of the world (3G) by LG and Samsung, SEVERAL TIMES OVER, is absolutely piss-poor and unacceptable. Completely.

the N76 is lame. im sick of companies trying to compete with the razr. sure thin phones are cool, but its starting to become annoying. and that razr lip is fugly. another thing, if nokia had so much trouble with the hardware on the N75, how is it that they have already produced a successor to it in an even thinner form factor? if anything, the delays with the N75 are due to cingular, imo. it just doesnt add up.

Perhaps by including gsm 850 they thought they were tossing us a bone. I agree...I desperately wnat an N95 but In the back of my head it will always bug me that Edge is as fast as it's going to get. What's worse is the fact that the GPS seems to need a connection while loading the maps and I'm assuming that Nokia designed this with HSDPA in mind. Nokia can certainly be frustrating at times but so can my wife...and I love em both

....but I do waste a lot of money on both

well its a good thing that its getting into major markets, but are there enough ppl using it so that cingular will consider spreading it thou? 3g in hk and japan were failures back then, i hope its not going to happen in the USA/Canada~
