The battery on the N73 will still last 2-3 days of moderate usage even with UMTS still enabled.
See, there's a problem with that too for the users who will buy the phone in the US and use the phone in a country outside of the US. Nokia can't disable it for those users when it says in the manual and on the box that the UMTS works in Europe. I honestly don't know how else they could've done it. The only way Nokia would officially have backed themselves into a corner is if they guaranteed the device would work for 36 hours straight, in which case the phone only lasted 35.5 due to UMTS constantly searching, but that's not the case.
