Nokia Mystery Event. 18.08.2010

S60 is a great platform for low-to-medium cost mobile phones regardless of location, but you just don't sell these types of phones the same way as you might an N8, particularly in the United States. As I said before, I think they would have been better served by swapping cities like Jakarta and Manila in place of New York and London. In Indonesia and the Philippines, the C6 or any other S60 phone might be a pretty high-end device and a pretty big deal and it's worth splashing out on it a bit.

In New York or London, this is the sort of phone that would do well if sold for "nothing" on contract. Few people are actively going to seek out this phone by name because it's nothing terribly special. The carrier and the price should be doing the selling in these richer markets.

So I see a lot of disappointment about the C6 unboxing..

Lets just say.. Its not over and there is another bigger surprise in the next 2 weeks..

my biggest hang up is the C6 is already released....
it'd be different if the phone wasn't already officially announced and for sale prior...
hopefully this is a drawn out thing that leads up to Nokia World....

If I was hosting one of those events and found out that it was only a C6, I'd open the front door and punt it into the parking lot...

Is this discussion really happening? Does everyone believe that the US/UK markets are high end devices? Hell, I still hear ppl at work say they just want a PHONE, not a smartphone, not a messaging phone, and one guy even has SMS disabled on his account. You think it would have been a good idea to unbox a $600+/unsubsidized-only device in Time Square? "Wow, that's a great looking device. How much?" "$650" "Oh, I can get the iPhone for $200"

The C6 is a fully featured device for a decent price that many would probably enjoy owning. It's not targeted at the users on this forum.

^ Two different worlds for us man.

My office is practically slumming if anyone is using a phone that's over a year old. (2 of which are Meego bound)

My nieces and nephews are always trying to have the latest and greatest phones to keep up socially with school. (usually it's either Apple/Android/BB)

My uncle "MR. FAR Phone Guy" his whole life won't stop calling me about how to do things with his Droid.

Going out to lunch the geek in me is looking at other tables while eating. EVOs are popping up like weeds, although BB are still used the most.

Are regular phones out there, definitely but they are almost becoming a minority. Many people (including a couple of my own family/friends) are giving up their home phones for the best all-in-one device that they can get...

Lol.. and the WOMWorld on the background would go "As long as you bring it back to us in 2 weeks, we find any usage pattern of yours very exiting! We'll write a blog entry about it if you'd like. Please?"

And it's not targeted at people in London, either. I wouldn't be surprised if the few people who actually paid any attention to the unboxing were laughing at how crap the phone is. And yes, in a city where you'll be walking past top end iPhones, BlackBerrys and Androids with every step, the C6 is undisputedly a laughable piece of plastic crap.

We already know, check out "Viipottaja's" link in post #22, that's why I made the comment about punting the phone into the parking lot for such an overhyped event...

Why would Nokia re-release/announce C6? It does not make sense :befuddled The only thing that I can come up is that the bloggers use the current C6's that they've got with the boxes (or am I totally wrong on this ) to announce/release new C-series phone? That would be quite cool for them and us :o

I agree that the bloggers need something way more appealing than the Nokia C6 to get them on board to do time consuming clue/mystery solving...:disappoin

For a company that wants to get back on track, you don't put so much promotion for a low-mid range phone. Heck this is a type of phone that maybe LG would be proud of, but Nokia? REALLY!?

Seriously Nokia Why? They want to waste money to *ahem* promote garbage phones, but yet they are also crying poor by wanting to close all their remaining stores. WTF-ever...
