Nokia MWC predictions?

So, given that CES was more or less a "no show" for Nokia, what are the realistic MWC predictions:

Meego: "The development is going well and we will making some exiting announcements in the coming months. What's this space!" :(

Symbian:
1) E7 (may have started shipping earlier)
2) X7 announcement
3) demoing of PR2.0 for C6-01, C7, N8, E7
4) E6 announcement
5) something on the services/apps side; perhaps some fruits of the MS cooperation, Maps demos of things to come? Hyping up Qt even more. Augmented reality demos?
6) S40 Touch and Type device or two; perhaps a tradional non-TS S40 phone

Anything else?

E6 is a good thought. We know it exists but we haven't seen or heard anything about it that I know of. Hopefully it's a touch-and-type device. If not, it had better have one hell of a screen because that's been the big failing in previous E-series QWERTY devices, IMO.

X7 if AT&T hasn't given up on it. E7 because it's already late. Maybe some feature phones but nothing too exciting beyond this, I think. If that's the case then MWC looks pretty awful for Nokia.

I also doubt we'll see PR2.0 software being demoed - too early. 1.1 should be out soon, though. It's late but it should be well before MWC.

I am hearing E6 is touch and type slider. There were also generic comments on it on M-R forum and that particular guy, even if discounted by 200%, sounded quite exited about it (could be just because it fits what he wants/likes).

I don't think AT&T would have given up on X7, unless they want to go straight to Meego.

Hmm. Would be a bummer if at least some elements of PR2.0 would not be ready. The browser or portrait qwerty at least.

Well, April announcement seems to be what the N9 rumors are converging around now - hope that holds and is not delayed more. Given that they have said they would reduce the announcement to launch time, I doubt they would have presented it in CES if it was only going to be in shops in the summer.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.4; Series60/5.0 NokiaN97-3/22.2.110; Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1) AppleWebKit/525 (KHTML, like Gecko) BrowserNG/7.1.4)

complete and utter world dominance....

Dual core phones will be announced by Nokia. ST Ericcson supposedly said a dual core Symbian phone is coming out in the first half of 2011. That would be in line with the Tegra 2's on Android.

I also expect a greatly enhance Ovi Maps, something to be pure Qt and hopefully integrated much better than before.

I see Terminal Mode being finalized and NFC being realized and some partnership with a gaming company so they can get a lot more content. If Big Screen can display videos and pictures, why not also GAMES.

Perhaps even talk of an LTE phone since they have partnered with LightSquared to provide devices and they are LTE only in the USA waiting to come out.

I don't think we'll see a MeeGo device at MWC because MeeGo 1.2 won't even be in hardening (i.e. no new features - only bug fixes) phase until March. Given that Nokia was committed to shortening the time between announcements even before Elop was made CEO and that he has really taken this to task, the development schedule for MeeGo doesn't leave room for a 1.2 N9 launch.

If MeeGo 1.2 is out in April and if Nokia wants to use 1.2 for the N9 and if Nokia needs some time to integrate it and deliver a product, I doubt we'd see a product announcement before April. They might have the ability to deliver a product for summer given the development schedule for MeeGo so don't expect an announcement until a month or so before that actually happens. Nokia routinely delivers products in the middle of the year so it wouldn't be unusual.

If Nokia's going to go forward with MeeGo 1.1, well then all bets are off. That was delivered a couple months ago and Nokia could conceivably have it ready to go now. They could announce and deliver at MWC. That'd be one hell of a surprise pulled from out of nowhere but I doubt that they will since 1.2 adds some really important features.

If it is announced by April, then with nokia's track record it won't ship till holiday 2011

All the dual core phones announced at ces won't sip until 2h 2011

the real announcements of product strategy will happen in a meeting with investment analysts in early feb. At that meeting, I expect nokia to downplay Meego, and tell everyone that they will come out with 1 phone when it is ready. Remember Meego was supposed to be out in 2010. It's almost 9mo late even if they get it out the door. I suspect that will be during the summer of 2011.

The big news out of this meeting may well be a new high end direction that will be focused on Android or Wp7 or perhaps both. They will continue to push Symbian and talk about the improvements that are coming. Mobile moves too fast. You can't be 9mo late with new OS and expect the world to wait for you.

The reason I say they are going to put Meego on ice is they are not pushing the ecosystem before the phone comes out. They aren't letting people see the UI. They aren't courting the bloggers in USA. Developers are not happy with their communication with Nokia. You don't see any leaks. They are not building any enthusiasm. Meego is essentially trying to be Android after Android has gotten to V3 and Meego will be at V1 with very few apps. No carrier support in USA for meego. No mindshare. It's too late for a new platform given the top 3 are investing huge sums in their ecosystems already. You see how visible Microsoft is with Wp7? See how much money they are sinking into it? that's what it takes to launch a new platform. As it is, Nokia will be also be going up agains Palm and RIMM who are both trying to launch new platforms.

It's too late for Meego imo. I could be way off base. And they may surprise me and try to push it and launch it in February. They may try to go with Meego as their next gen OS. But it seems like they are too quiet.

If Nokia announces the X7 and it does end up being carried by AT&T, any thoughts on how that will be carried out? Like for instance, will it be like the Nexus One where it's unlocked but still charged the full data plan price or will it be unrecognizable like all other unlocked Nokia phones? Or will it maybe be a whole separate model ala E71x? Or will be completely exclusive?

I know this is pure speculation at this point but I really like the specs on the X7 and think it has a lot of potential. What about the price point? I'm hoping that it's around what the N8 is now or hopefully a bit cheaper.

It is very very likely to be locked to AT&T with their branded firmware. And likely also to be exclusive to AT&T at least for a little bit, and at least in the US. Have heard that Nokia Maps and Ovi would be there though. We'll see. Oh and I think those spec lists seen on GSMArena forum etc. look bogus..
