Nokia E61 sync with Outlook and Address search with TomTom GPS?

I have successfully gotten the program running and the maps activated. The only problem that I now have is the backlight problem that has been cited many times by posters on this website. The most difficult part of the installation involved inputting the activation code for the map. The E62 will not type numbers and some characters when asked to activate the first map. While keeping the blue function key down, one must continue to press the number keys several times as the key cycles through letters and numbers. Nowhere in the documentation of either the phone or the TT6 is this trick mentioned. If you have experienced the backlight problem or know of a solution, please let me know. Thanks.

Alphaneumeric entry on my E61 works fine. It did not work on my E62. I'm curious to find out if dchavers can input alphanumeric characters on his/her E62. Thanks.

so do you need a bluetooth GPS unit to use TT6 or do you guys just use it for getting directions and what not on the go? I'm very intrigued by this BTW I do not have GPRS or any of the other data plans, I just use wifi since its available in my most of my work/school locations and pretty quick too....

I use an OnCourse SiRF Star III Bluetooth GPS receiver. I bought it from buygpsnow.com and it was about $100USD. The receiver is also used via Bluetooth with my iPAQ 4705 PPC. You do not need GPRS or WiFi service to use the TT6 application. Load the TT6 application on your device, load the maps for your respective area(s), pair up your device with the GPS receiver via Bluetooth and navigate away.

Thanks for posting your solution. This appears to have been a fix for an E61? I gather this from the info posted in reply from a guy who wrote that he had opened his E62 and noted that Nokia had changed something that you had fixed. I wanted you to know that I have had no problem with the backlight in general terms. The TomTom software turns the backlight off when the program starts. I have heard nothing from TomTom after they helped with the installation problem. I assume that they have not come up with a patch to fix this bug. If you learn anything about the TomTom software turning off the backlight, please forward. In the meantime, I have been using Wayfinder which works well but has less attractive maps.

My E62 backlight worked fine until I launched Tom Tom 6. Only then did I have backlight problems. Closed TT6 and the backlight worked. I also tried Wayfinder, which did not cause backlight problems.

Not only are the QWERTY keyboards very different between the E61 & E62 but something inside (besides the E61 WiFi radio) is very different between the two units.

It is very frustrating because, when it is running, TT6 more attractive than Wayfinder. After using TT6 a couple of times, it no longer loads. I must format the card and load it all over again. This is all because of Telenav.

Entering alpha-numeric characters is an adventure similar to the game concentration. You must hold down the blue function key and press the 4 key for example and keep pressing it with the function key held down-until the number 4 appears. The letter J is an exception. It is found by cycline the F or G key. (I cannot now remember). I still cannot solve the problem with the backlight, but the program is pretty neat. When using the program and typing an address and number, the keypad works as designed.

Any thoughts on the backlight problem. I have asked TomTom support and haven't heard from them on this issue. On the initial installation problem that I had, TomTom support was great.
