The various reviews I read concerning the E61 seemed to indicate some buggy functionality when it came to IMAP email in the E61. However, all the reviews were done mid-year '06, and I'm sure some firmware updates have come out in the meantime.
I'm looking for a blackberry-functionality type phone, but as all my email servers are unix based, blackberry push is out. So, I'm considering the Nokia E61. I *only* support IMAP email service, however, so it's important to me the IMAP functionality is good. In the reviews, it said the phone didn't properly set the email flags (replied to/whatever) on IMAP mail, is this still true? Also - when set to auto-check email, is it true that it keeps the wifi/edge/gprs connections active permanently without every disconnecting (thus killing battery?) When auto-check for email is on, using IMAP, will I still be able to receive/make calls without "missing" any of them due to the edge/wifi/gprs connection being active?
How's the mac-syncing work? Do you need a third party application, or will it directly sync? I'm concerned with the contact list, calendar, todo list, etc. With contacts, it's important that it syncs correctly, not just putting random phone numbers in random categories (problem I've had with other phones...)
How is the phone overall, in your opinions, with the latest firmware update? Is it hard to get updates now? I do live in the US - and use T-Mobile - so I'm not sure if the nokia updater would work for me/keep my phone current. Please do let me know about this.
All the reviews said reception was excellent, so I'm not too worried about that. Any other words/comments/etc you might have would be greatly appreciated. I was considering the N73 due to the nice camera, but after looking at it - it seems low light photos still stink (which is 99% of the time I use a camera phone - party photos and such.) Looks like it's still not usable for photos like that (flash isn't strong enough) so really no point to a camera. So, I'm considering the E61 since the QWERTY keyboard will really help (I'm a heavy email user.) Please do give any input concerning this, especially if you know of upcoming models that might be best of both worlds or anything like that.
Thank you all kindly,
David
