Nokia Barcode Reader for N73 and N80 Now Available

uh oh! Been drinkin some Holiday Guiness and I think I'm shakin' too much. Any tips? I've held it there for a few minutes and I see the camera blinking but to no avail. I've lined up the barcode in the screen perspective almost perfectly for a minute or so but nothing.

Pix for the N80 though!!

WOW....tried to update a minute ago and it gave an error message that some catalogs were unable to load. Where I once had wlan wizard, gizmo, wirelesskeyboard app and some yahoo and amazon options, they have all disappeared and I'm left with the catalog icon. Inside it's only handango and nokia software market with all of the pay downloads. WTH just happened. I've got an N80ie with the latest firmware for anyone else this has happened to.

An interesting application---but ultimately useless. On the off chance one can get it to actually read a bar code, the patience necessary to do so will likely leave the question: Why not just write the information down?!

Seriously, I probably held the camera over a barcode for two minutes before it actually recognized it---and that was a simple bar code. Various lighting conditions, angles, etc. did not result in any noticeable improvement.

I'm using an N73. I hope it works better on others' handsets. Perhaps the utility will be useful in that event. I'm going to press the "C" key on the application now. Wasted space.

since i haven't been able to installed in on my N73, i can't really comment on the speed of it recognizing the barcode. however i did test the QuickMark software on an O2 Atom Exec, it recognizes the barcode in fraction of a second. sadly, QuickMark's solution doesn't install on N73 either.

I downloaded Catalogs on my N73 and when connecting I only can see Handango software, nothing else. My phone has operator's software package (Softbank Japan), so that might be the reason?!? Is there any other way how can I download/install it? I have been waiting for this reader for years!!!

Ha Ha this is kind of cool, am not sure what I'll use it for but this is what I get when I do it on Rcaddens link/page.
Gonna go look for new stuff to do it on, may be useless fun but that's the best kind !!!!

Cheers, LL-

I would really like to download this program, but I have a question,

does it only work on 2d barcodes??

my grilfiriend likes to shop and she is always asking me to go get a price scan on items. this would be a life saver.

LOL man ur funny.

i dont think the barcode reader gives you any prices, because the price scanners at Walmart (for example) and other stores have prices and names of products stored in database....

or maybe im wrong??

interesting how this topic has skewed into such an unexpected tangent.!

anyways I found out that you were right, the info is stored in the database... it just reads the number, and looks up that barcode provided number into its database. oh well
