Nokia 7610 mmc going crazy

First off, had my phone/card for two years, could my card just simply die like an ordinary harddisk?

Well started out with someone calling me, and the phone just went crazy, couldn't answer or do anything. So i restarted my phone and everything went slow, could'nt open the menu or anything(something that usually happens when a harddisk is about to die). Ok so i restarted my phone again a few times until a message came(startup failed, contact the retailer). So i put the card into the cardreader of my pc, and all the files/folders are there, i can even play some of the mp3's, but some files/folders are ''corrupted''. I can't transfer them to my pc etc. So i rename the folders that are corrupted and then i'm able to transfer them. But suddenly everything dissapears but in the properties nothing has changed(shows the same amount of space and used space). The only thing left are some .html files for the ''opera'' browser..

What's happening? And is there a way to fix this so i can at least try to backup the file settings and folders so that my phone understands them? Please help. =)=)=)

I would format the card. It sounds like it's giving you way too many problems to try salvaging. There's a free tool that will pull out file types of your choice based on file extensions if you can't find or transfer things off of the card that you need. You'll have to Google it though because I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

I voted for ssfaf because it had the most letters.

What kind of memory card is it? Brands that aren't SanDisk, ATP, or made by Nokia tend to generate a lot of problems.

There should be an option to format the card on the phone itself in the application dedicated to the memory card called "Memory Card", appropriately. If that doesn't work you should use a card reader and your PC to do it, which will definitely do the job.

I owned a the 7610's brother, the 6670,a while back, and I had a memory card freak out too. I was switching messages back and forth from phone memory to the card while on a call and the phone slowed down and restarted. After I restarted it, the card was corrupted and I wasn't happy about losing all my text messages.

yeah that's about the same problem i guess.. it doesnt say what brand it is, but it has the same ''design'' as the phone itself and it has lastet about 2 yrs without any problem so i guess the card itself is pretty good. But then i'll take your advice and just let it be, format the little ******* . One more thing though.. Do you know if there is any prog that can backup the messages, numbers, progs etc from a corrupted card or is it just possible to use standard recoveryprogs that only finds ordinary windows files like jpg etc..
