Nokia 6103 or Motorola Razr V3

Hello,
I am going to buy a mobile phone. There are two phones that I can't decide between. They are the Nokia 6103 and the Motorola Razr V3. These are the cons I have found so far for each phone:

Nokia 6103:
Screen not as bright as the Razr V3
Not as thin as the Razr V3
External antenna

Motorola Razr V3:
No video capture (or is there?)
24-chord polyphonic ringtones (the 6103 has 40-chord??)

I feel like I'm forgotting a con or two on the Razr... but anyway, I'm leaning more towards the Razr because the 6103 cons are all big things... the Razr's cons are smaller issues.

So, what do you think? Which one should I go for? also, if anyone knows another phone that is better than these two and is in a similar price range, then tell me about it.

Thanks.

The Nokia has EDGE (class 6) and the Motorola doesn't. The Nokia's UI is better. On the other hand, I still like the RAZR better. No matter how much people complain about it, its still very proven all round.

EDGE is high speed data transfer, if you use WAP a lot or something involving data then it makes it MUCH faster, however if you just use your phone for calling and text messaging then it makes no difference.

here is a better explenation: http://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php?gid=107

Hmm, ok... I don't know if I would use it a lot, but I would probably rather get one with it because it would be a pain in the @ss if I went to do something like that and the phone didn't have EDGE.

Should I go with the 6103 then?? I don't know...

Are there any other flip-phones in the same price range that would be better?

Well, then what you need to do, since the phones seem very similar, is go to your T-Mobile store (since they have both I believe, and by T-Mobile I'm assuming you live in the US) and actually pick up and feel the phones. That actually has a suprising affect on how much you will like the phone. For instance, I find my V635 too bulky and like every other clamshell, even though it has a tonne of features, is good looking and is at a good price right now, but because its too bulky and "normal" feeling I'm getting rid of it. So if you do have the opertunity to try both, do it (if in Canada, I believe Rogers has the V3 and 6101, which basically is the same size and feel).

Well, I went into a couple of phone shops today and I saw a couple of motorola phones... I also saw a nokia. I saw a Razr V3, a Razr V3i, and a Nokia 6101. I didn't really get to have a good look at the Razr V3, but I noticed the Razr V3i was very wide compared to the nokia 6101. I'm guessing the Razr V3 would be just as wide. I also thought the Nokia 6101 didn't look as thick as I thought it would be. Now, I'm not getting a 6101, I'm getting a 6103, but they are basically the same model, so I am using it for comparison. I didn't get to see the screen of the nokia, because it was turned off. So that leaves me with one more question. Is the screen on the nokia 6103 dim? or not? because I've read in one place that it was bright and luminous but I've read in a couple of other places that it was dim.

Well, if you look at the specs the Motorola does have a superior screen.
Nokia 6103: Colors: 65,536 (16-bit) Size: 128 x 160 pixels
Motorola V3:Type: Colors: 262,144 (18-bit)Size: 176 x 220 pixels
So because of the screens differences the Nokia might seem dim and low res in comparision, Motorola is generally known for having excellent screens though.
Basically yes, it might be a little dim, but you would only notice it when compared to the Motorola V3, not likely in everyday life.

Well, I'd really like to get a phone that has Edge...

But on the other hand, my friend has a Motorola V3 and the screen is really nice.

I can't decide!

The Razr v3 is a nic phone but it's not clear,The nokia is very clear, with the razr it's hard to hear,it has alot of problems I had 2 of them and i sent them back to get the nokia 6103 im happy with the nokia

Its sounds like you really are set on a phone with EDGE, and that from what watson1968 said, the 6103 a good sound choice. The nokia's screen may not be as nice, but its unlikely that you will notice it unless compared, and it definitely will not look that bad. Plus the RAZR is annoyingly popular, and the Motorola UI is crappy, AND I believe the 6103 comes with an FM radio, so overall, it sounds like the 6103 is the way you should go.

Well, Edge sounds like a necessity for a phone that you are downloading anything onto ... is Edge used for everything that involves data transfer?

It just seems like the sort of thing that you if you didn't get ... you'd wish you had got it when you needed it.

I'm not sure on this, but I believe EDGE is used for any data transfer. On the other hand, it depends how much you use data, since its generally expensive to use data on cell phones.

It still sounds to me like the 6103 is the best choice for you. Its just had a refresh too, so its not old and outdated like the RAZR is quickly becoming. And if your friend owns one I imagine it might seem lame to have a RAZR as well.
