No Victoria Wood Xmas Special this year then??

It was one turkey in her whole career, just one! It's not like she's all washed up.

Now, I know a lot of people hated Dinnerladies, but the difference there was that a lot of people loved it too, so it's a matter of opinion thing. So far the only universally hated programme has been Midlife Christmas. Let's just see how the Morecambe and Wise thing goes, shall we?

I enjoyed Dinnerladies. Yes, there were things perhaps not entirely right about it, but I thought it was enjoyable, and I watched every episode.

Ignoring Victoria's forays into TV drama, my feeling is Victoria peaked comedy-wise with her 1989 series. She's done some good stuff since then but every new TV project seems to have been that little bit less funny than the previous one. The 2000 special was probably the first genuinely disappointing offering, and obviously, last year's was worse still, but the general downward trend is why I'd go into her next comedy project with low expectations. Personally, I'm not convinced she'll ever do any more TV comedy. I hope after a few years have passed, she might look back on last year's show and admit to herself, if not in public, that it was poor.

As for the Morecambe and Wise drama, that doesn't have to be funny, so I don't envisage any problems with that.

I'm not much of a fan. Doing Yorkshire accents for droning, working-class drudges to try and be funny annoys me, plus I've always somehow found her too self-consciously arch and clever.

Having said that, I watched the TV play starring her a couple of years ago, in which she plays some Second World War widow, and she was very good in that, and seeing her featured on The South Bank Show, she seems pleasant enough as a person.
