no sound in my sound, speech, and audio devices.?

recently my sound has stopped working and i decided that maybe there was a problem with my audio configurations. so i went to my control panel and clicked on sounds, speech, and audio devices then opened everything that was available there because it kept saying no device next to the sound. please help me. im only 15 so using big tech words is only gonna confuse me, i have windows xp and my hard drive is dimension E510
