No one knows what this is!

Hi everyone,
I have had this flesh colored bump (actually a little lighter than my tan olive skin) on one of my fingertips. It is close to where the white of my nail grows.

I've had it for probably a few months. It doesn't really bother me unless my nails are shorter and I like to have my nails on the shorter side (not digging into my skin short). Then again, maybe I just don't pay attn when my nails are a little longer. It's painful when I press on it or if I use that finger to type, etc. But I feel no pain if it's not being used. Maybe because the pain is

I asked the pharmacist when it first came up and he said if I doesn't go away in a few days or weeks it may be an ingrown nail. It's been a few months and I am almost certain it isn't that. Someone else suggested I might want to get my sugar tested and I did. I am fairly healthy. It is also not something from friction etc.

Basically it is the size of the tip of postive end of a AAA battery...can't think of another size at the moment. The size of medium-large grape seed.

What would this be? It hasn't gone away. Nothing has changed in my diet or otherwise. If I could go to the doctor/derm/whoever I would. Hopefully everyone here can give me some input. Thank you!

I posted on the Skin Problems board at first but didn't get any responses. I'd appreciate any useful comments/tips/etc.

there are a few more common possibilities from what you have described. is this actually on the skin BY the nail or on the actual nail itself,a little confused there. if it is on the skin or under it it could be whats called a ganglion cyst. i had one on the side of a finger once. it could also be some kind of wart as well. but on the other hand it could be whats called a skin tag too. or even a keloid or just some scar tissue that has grown,or overgrown from even a smaller type cut you had at some point? just the more common possibilities.

just wondering what your doc has said about this. i am assuming since you had your glucose level checked at some point,it was when you were seeing your doc? the above stuff is just some possibilities as to what this could be. there is always the possibility that it could be something else too. if your doc does not seem to know, you can always seek out a dermatologist. they would most likely be able to tell you just exactly what this is since they are much more familiar with all skin issues. just a suggestion for you. hopefully you will find out soon, just to actually know what the heck you have there. please keep me posted,K? FB

I got a chance to look up ganglion cysts and it doesn't look like that. I think since I noticed it, the look hasn't really changed. Any other ideas?

tho a derm would be ideal(the wait to just see one is usually quite long),your primary can take a good look at it and can also do a simple biopsy on it just to rule out other possibilitys. it just could be a simple plain old wart too ya know? the biopsy would remove it and also give you peace of mind that it is not anything else. i would not try freezing this off or using any wart removers til your doc has at least seen this. most primarys do have a good working knowledge of all the weird strange things our bodies grow at times. he or she at least needs to evaluate this before you take things into your own hands, just so they are aware and can see it first. it really does sound more like a wart or skin tag of some kind tho. just see your doc for that look see. please keep us posted, FB

I still think it's a wart. You could try OTC wart remover, or some other kind of DIY method. But a dermatologist can freeze it off in one visit, two at most, without much ado.

hi...wow i love these boards there is always so much i learn.

midwest1 - thanks for the reply again!

feelbad - your replies are very helpful. rather kind of you to go into such detail, perfect! i'm going to have to figure out this doctor thing and i'll surely hope i'll have some updates soon.

thank you both...for the answers and peace of mind!

no problem, just let us know how things go. good luck. it is more than likely a wart of some kind, but your doc really does need to just see this before you do anything. FB
