No no no no no no no!!!!!

For me the whole essence of the carry on was the ensemble nature - Core set of actors, same producer, director, scriptwriter and composer for all the films. Once you break that it's not that same - it's like recreating DaRAB Army with different actors.

Some things should just be left alone.

I think it would be quite interesting to do a new one with the current set of reality celebs.

Jade Goody, Chantelle Houghton, Melanie Slade, Coleen McLoughlin, Kate Price, Jodie Marsh and cameos from Marco, Victor and Brian Dowling from Big Brother.

All of them acting it would be hilarious.

I can't imagine anything worse!

I know the carry ons were very cheaply made but there were some very good actors - Kenneth Williams was a very well established and regarded theatre actor; Kenneth Connor has shown since how good he is in other roles etc OK Sid James just played Sid James in ever film, and Charles Hawtrey was just p****d, but there were some excllent performances.

Someone on the radio had a good point. The 50s and 60s Carry Ons were mocking accepted British mores, such as prudishness and deference. So it was the new mocking the old. Now Carry On itself is old and what will it mock?

I;d say that's true in parts. I'd say the characters played by Kenneth Williams espcially match this (although they were really very like the man himself). But much of it was just pure slapstick and double entendres too - that would still work today. Whether it would draw the audiences is anotherthing - many young people have no sentimental attachment to the "tradidtion"; and many older people I'd guess will not want to watch Shane Ritchie trying to be the new Sid James.
