No MMS on BlackBerry Pearl with unlimited messaging?

I'm not with TMO, but with Verizon and they don't support the MMS even though the 7130e is capable. I don't use the internet alot, but most of you are right, to do anything above a "normal" phone capability you need to have the data plan in place, can get very expensive otherwise. It's just unfortunate that it's so pricey

Seems like a good time to chimein on the conversation...

The blackberry from t-mo isn't crippled out of the box for MMS but as with all BBs it requires a service book to enable any useful communicaton features... To receive a servcebook you need BIS/BES service.

Now... I am in a completely different boat then you...

I have stripped the OS of both MMS cod files preventing any MMS messages being sent on my wife's pearl and the one file my 8700g.

Not realizing the you NEED to use MMSto send out pictures attachments and regular BB email will NOT do I am frustrated and don't want to spend any more on services let alone 20 a month to get messaging on our family plan.

My perfect BB world is in shambles.... Have to think of a new stratagy :-( But I hear ya...

EDIT - This post deserves my WORST grammerical/spelling post award EVER!!! Congrats to me!!! No, I will not fix the mistakes.... This is my pride :-)

mms doesn't work without the BIS plan because mms uses the gprs connection which is disallowed without the blackberry service. it's true that an unlimited message plan includes mms, but in your case you can't send them anyways.

madfx, did you just sign up with a new plan? if so, you could terminate under buyer's remorse (if within 14 days), and reactivate but pay a deposit of $250 to bump yourself out of SmartAccess and get any plan and feature you like. you'll get the deposit back after one year. this seems like the best way since you already said you could pay for service upfront if it helped. otherwise, if you stay with the SA plan it'll be a year before you can get out of it. your other option (if it's too late) would be to drop the myFaves part and go with a GetMore Basic plan which is $29.99/mo and add the BB feature. i've done both ways.

i'm sure it's obvious i'm a t-mo rep. let me know if you have any more questions...

jxk, Welcome to rabroad,

And thanks for the information. Do normal phones such as the Razor and equivalant allow MMS with Message Plans but not Data Plans?

Rcbjr.

Yes, other phones such as the razr, trace, etc., will allow MMS'ing without a data plan (the messaging bundles provision the devices correctly). The BlackBerry's rely on the service books, as the other poster said, to correctly send things, and it sends pictures as a data burst. No bb plan = no mms provisioning, and disallows any data transmission. Thusly the same cycle any bb has, no data plan = crippled device...

MEH! That totally belows me. I guess BlackBerry is starting to get into the swing of the consumer market thing. Hopefully they'll respond somehow. I don't have deep corporate wallets paying a $100+ bill every month so I hope they don't forget about the little guy.

I just got the 1000 text and mms plan last night. Originally I got it for the text part of it but they told me I would get mms too and I got excited thinking about all the pics I can take and send but noticed that I couldn't figure out how to do it. This search came up first and I have to say that it sucks. I love the phone, it's super hot but the more I have it the more I am dissapointed with it's shortcummings. First the track ball the cancels the ringing now the mms that doesn't work. I didn't get the blackberry for work purposes. I just really like that I can have 3rd party apps on a phone thats neat looking and not huge and I'm not spending another $20 on top of the $10 I just did. T-mobile should really stop telling people thats you get both with this phone. I heard RIM may issue some sort of update, guess we'll see.

yea i noticed all MMS and SMS are all have the D for data next to each text and PIN i send out. So yea i guess you do have to have the $19.99 UNLIM BB on your plan. ITs truly my first BB ever, and i love it. But for just Text Messaging and Phone usage with a camera id get a Samsung Slider or a RAZR from motorola. The BB's, MDA, SDA, DASH, SIDEKICK you have to pay for something extra just to be able to enjoy and get most of the features to work.

Are you still unhappy with the phone. You have 14days from teh original date of purchase to trade it in and try another phone. Hope you could atleast take atvantage of that....if its the case

i bought my mom a t-mobile phone no matter what the problem there fault or not they seem to not want to fix any problems any phone company like that is a bad choice. not to mention before i got her a phone i went to get a blackberry myself and they gave me the same restrictions of smartaccess which make having a blackberry pointless. im with sprint and happy. 1000 min $55 500 extra $5 and unlimited data $40

I'm pretty sure that SMS is included in the T-mobile BB Internet plan, MMS isn't but you can still email your heart out with your photos.

I'm guessing the reason it's not included is because none of the previous BB's had cameras, so there was no need for it.

Ah I feel like i'm resurrecting this thread, but perhaps some of you might be interested in the plan I got for my Blackberry. It's apparently a promotional plan that I only see listed on the tmo website (phone customer reps have access to it - in store reps on the other hand are... people you tolerate :cry.

$59.99 minutes & mail plan, that's 1000 mins, unlimited text, internet. No MMS listed but I can send it - no idea how much i'm being charged for MMS, i'll know soon enough.

I switched from a samsung t809 to the bb 8100, so I had a voice plan (1500 anytime minutes, 39.99) and some additional services for txt (1000 msgs 9.99) and internet (t-zones 5.99) etc. There was no way for me to keep my 39.99 plan since the add-on blackberry plan for $19.99 is a joke. It only covers email and internet.

So pretty much for about $5 more I have unlimited text, email, internet (the main selling point for me and the use of a BB!), but with about 500 minutes less.

Had a good laugh with the phone rep when she was reading off a note or addenum to the various plans she was reviewing for me; to paraphrase MMS is not on the Blackberry plans since no blackberries have cameras. Well till they offered the Pearl in their line up . She was like "hey they need to get with the program!"

So don't be completely put off by the whacky price structuring, the promotional plan seems pretty decent if you're a light phone user like me and gets you pretty much everything you need (BIS not BES tho).

Maz84protege you have D's next to your SMS and MMS? When i send a SMS and MMS it's just a envelope that's italics. No D's for me
? What kinda plan do you have? Just the BB unlimited or do you have text and MMS along with the BB unlimited? Sorry to steal the thread.
