No MMS on BlackBerry Pearl with unlimited messaging?

I just signed up for a MyFaves 300 plan and bought a Blackberry Pearl yesterday. I added on the $14.99 unlimited messaging. (text, pictures, video) The SMS text messaging works, but there's no MMS option on the menu...

So I called the customer service reps and finally the 4th one told me that MMS is crippled on the Pearl; and that MMS only works using with a Blackberry internet plan. That seems horribly wrong to me. Why would a new phone not be able to send MMS messages without having full-blown internet service? My ancient 3 year old phone could.. I'm not terribly happy as I'm not getting the options I paid for.

What what I've read, the $19.99 Blackberry internet plan just gives you email and web browsing capabilities, but not unlimited SMS and MMS messaging? Any ideas on the easiest and cheapest plan additions that would give me unlimited SMS and MMS messaging? Thanks.

there really isnt a way to combine them you can get the 19.99 internet and the 9.99 1000 txt etc. you should really get the internet plan how could you use a bb without internet?! its not possible for me

I know the no internet thing is probably shocking to BB users, but I really have no need for the internet capabilities. I used to for getting directions, but not after having a nagivation system put in the car.

I picked the BB Pearl for the keypad design and the MyFaves compatibility. I'm just stunned that they would cripple MMS, something all the other phones can do, and the only way to get it working is for an extra $19.99 per month. That's ridiculous in my opinion, I might just end up returning it and canceling service.

If you like the BB Pearl and dont want to use the BB part of it, my suggestion to you would be the RAZR or SLVR whatever its called thats almost the exact size with same abilities, and then get a plan from cingular or something

Best of luck

Anyway if you would like to use the google map service you would need a data plan 'cause almost nothing on a BB works without a data plan. BB were design for professional use that'S why they needed a data plan and if you just wanted to chat you're better get a phone not a PDA

well you baught a blackberry not just a normal phone, it uses the blackberry internet service for it to actually be a full blackberry. it also ensures them money, but as to you sayin the 19.99 for the internet service not giving text and data that is on the cell company not rim. i have unlimited everything on my bby for $85 thats voice, internet, txt and media messaging

Man... I love my BB 8700g with TMO, I just love it!

First of all...
madfx, you might have made a wrong decision with your new Pearl.
You sound like you should've gotten something like a Samsung phone that has MyFaves capability. That way you don't end up paying for something that you are not even going to use, the BB internet service.

And second of all...
This question is for devilsadidas regarding your post just up above mine.
You have unlimitted VOICE and everything else and you get away with paying only $85 a month? Did I read that right? I just don't see how it's possible if you are with TMO.
Can you please share the secret with us?

ps. Last time I checked, TMO doesn't even have unlimitted voice plan to begin with.
I am waiting for your response...

madfx, Welcome to rabroad.

I too feel you might be more satisfied with one of the other MyFaves capable phones. It sounds to me like you aren't really into the BB advantages.

Rcbjr.

I guess I'm the only one who finds the situation silly. Just because I don't check email 'round the clock doesn't mean I can't take advantage of the phone with it's high quality screen, it's form factor, the keypad, multimedia functions and so on. I wanted a quality phone, and this seemed to be the best one there.

It's just a horrible job on Tmobile's part. The phone is advertised "MMS capable" and their unlimited messages addon says "MMS for all Tmobile phones" (this Pearl being a Tmobile exclusive) which certainly isn't the case.

Thanks for the comments though.

Yeah, I spent about 30 minutes in the store as each employee had a go at searching for solutions on their computer. They were all surprised to see that the Pearl was be crippled in that regard.

Update:
Pathetic customer support. I've talked to 3 reps and 1 manager, no one will stand by the service. If they won't respect what's written on our agreement/contract over something this silly, I have my concerns about possible future disputes with billing or what not. Unless something miraculous happens over the next week, I'll be going elsewhere.

The funniest development is they won't even tack on the $19.99 unlimited Blackberry internet addon if I pay for it. (which they say is necessary for MMS) I'm on the SmartAccess category, which is supposedly for people with bad credit, so it limits my options. Money isn't even the issue, I told them I'd gladly pay for my entire 2 years of service upfront. Apparently that's no good. What would scare them off of letting me add a feature that cannot create overages? It's unlimited, I couldn't go over that $19.99 per month if I tried.. Tmobile makes no sense whatsoever.

I've been on a Verizon corp plan using a Treo 650. Used to have the BB 7290. Now my company is stripping away it's corporate phones I needed to get a new one.

Lucky for me the hot new Pearl is out and I decided to grab it. Like madfx, I don't really have a need for web (I have 2 computers connected at any given time for web - why pay $20 for it) but i DO require SMS and MMS messaging.

I picked up the myFavs 600 and unlimited Text and Picture messaging. How appalled i was when my new $250 BB COULDN'T send mms without connecting to it's data service. LAME!

It took 4 people and about 1 hr with customer service (which happened to rock with TMO) to finally say "you cant"

I know it's a BB and BB's are made for professionals but why design one that finally appeals to the trendy consumer market, set it at an attainable price point but then break plan rules. Most plans break down into 3 types of add ons. Voice, TXT/MMS, Data/Web. Under BB, they require that MMS/Web be together, but TMO doesnt offer a plan that accommodates this need. You have to purchase both Data (for MMS) and then a plan that "includes SMS & MMS - but not really the MMS if you have Blackberry."

For such a nice phone, you have to really pay an ***-load. If you're finally broken enough to agree to it (by convincing yourself that you could actually enjoy the web if you let yourself) they tell you that you cant spend your money with them. Sigh... How frustrating. Are there any hacked firmware files out there that could open this option up with the pearl? Talk about annoying.

And i know i could just go get a normal phone, but you gotta admit, that pearl is just sexy. It's like a really hot girlfriend that just spends your money like crazy. You wanna let her go, but the sex is too good.

sheesh.

I totally Agree Redgiant and Max. its a new trendy phone. the 8100 is geared to both markets (business pros, and the people that want it for Multimedia features) i had a choice of getting an Ipod or a new phone, i could only afford to get one. i went with the BB because i could have both!! only to find out that i cant even send picture messages with the new 1.3 MP camera.
i dont see the need to pay 20 bucks more when i have a wireless laptop. i only need to check my email or myspace once a day. but what if that once in a life time picture comes across and i cant share it with anyone?
i love my phone, and will deal with it i guess, but that doesnt mean i dont dislike what TMO had done!
