Switch to a full synthetic oil after the first 600 mile service is done...and it'll smoothe out a lot. Also, the bike will shift smoother if you 'rev through' the gears a bit..don't baby it. ;)
 
I've thought about the m109r, but every article I've read says (a), they have no cornering ability (pegs hit very early) and (b) they're very uncomfortable (bad seat). Comments?
 
Lol, mine is lowered almost 3" and I have yet to scrape a peg. This is because I ride it like a cruiser and not a sport bike. Not sure who has the bony ass but mine is well cushioned and so is the seat, lol. No problems with comfort. The only complaint I had out of the box with this bike is the touchy throttle. I bought a JSD 3M TRE and that took care of that. The clunky shift takes some time to get used to, but some synthetic at my 4,000 mile oil change will cure that.
 
My roommate wanted to upgrade from is Honda Shadow Spirit (750). He was in love with the SE Mean Streak. Nice bike, I rode one myself. But as power cruisers go, it's probably the lowest. I told him this, and recommended so others. The M109R being one. He said he tried it but when he sat on it his right leg touched the heatshield. I was surprised since we are the same height I decided to try it out while he was haggling for his new Meanie. Yup, sure enough my right leg did as well. :(
 
Mine touched the heat shield as well, but once the bike was lowered I could flat foot. The heat shields work great by the way, they never get warm...
 
My leg touches while flat footed. But roommate got the Meanie and I'm looking in a different direction for my next bike.
 
only thing i hate about the bike is the damned huge ugly bulbous headlight cover. that would have to go for sure if i owned one of these. that and there's too much 'chrome' on the left side around the driveshaft - overdone if ya ask me. and it would need to be belt drive. so yeah, really nice bike other than that! feels really comfy to sit in, big pipes and all.
 
Lol, to what are you referring? Are you saying the 109 is not a high performance bike, or are you saying that there are aftermarket pipes that make more power than the stockers? Sure, you can buy a set of HK's or VH's and gain a HP or two, but without fuel management and a different intake it's all for naught.
 
...isn't "gain a HP or two" better performance over stock?

Is it worth the cost of a new pipe? That's highly opinionated. Does it perform better? That can be proven one way or the other based on HP/torque numbers.
 
I'd say that if you were to poll all the 109 owners out there the majority would stick with the stock pipe. And no, a couple HP isn't worth $500-600 worth of pipe, then another 5 for fuel management and intake stuff. Nah, I'll keep mine the way it is. The JSD is all I need to whoop most stock cruisers out there, minus the Vrod and a couple more.
 
You mean you can't take a V-Rod? I though for sure that the M109R would whoop up on a V-Rod, am I wrong?

I just though that it would have more performance than the V-Rod, I'm bummed!
 
Hopefully by the time I'm ready to buy the 109 they will have changed the headlight. All in all I think it's one of the best looking bikes on the road, it falls some where between bagger and sport bike.
