Is the engine getting up to operating temperature? Check to see if you are getting flow to the heater core. I have improved heater by just back flushing the heater core with a water hose. I removed the bottom hose and attached a water hose and then removed the top one to vent it.

I have a 2001 ford ranger edge, 6 cylinder. I really don't want to tear the dash apart to replace the heater core.Its a ton of work and I am large fellow and working under the dash is no fun. The heat isnt working, It blows air, just never warm air. My fiance and I want to sell the truck. Is flushing the heater core worth trying? Any thing else I should check. I hate fords and it kills me to spend money on this truck. All fan settings and vents work, the air just never gets hot,Radiator and resevoir are at proper levels, and the mixture door appears to be working. It goes up and down when I moved the knob. Any suggestions to try? Any valves to check?

Do you have a heater control valve on one of your heater hoses? could be bad.
Did you run down to almost empty in your radiator?You could have air pockets.
or you might try flushing your cooling system.
Oh and if your thermostat is in a place like my explorer 4.0
You may want to get some neighborhood skinny kid to get at the thermostat housing bolts,I found it was much easier to use a 1/8 socket wrench.you will never get a 3/8 drive to fit in between the tensioner pulley and the housing.But of course this is on the explorer 4.0 L
