No Country for Old Men (Spoilers)

So get around to it :P It's the kind of movie that you have to watch in good quality though, so if you can't go to the cinema you should rent/buy the DVD. In other words, don't watch it online, especially not for the first time. If you do want to watch it this minute though tudou.com should have it (ah, China and piracy...)

Is it? I haven't watched it but if you say so ;) damnit, I want to make comparisons between No Country and TWBB but I need to watch No Country again. Do you think it'd be ridiculous for me to watch No Country in the cinema? It'll be the first time I've seen it in a cinema but the third time I've seen the movie. Actually, that already sounds ridiculous out loud. Er.
 
Yeah, the haircut was definitely something else. Javier Bardem is pretty funny! He's completely different from Anton Chigurh (is that how it's spelled?).. it's great.

I also loved Josh Brolin as Llewellyn. Though I've never heard the name Llewellyn before. I thought it was "Lou Ellen" until they showed his utility bill or whatever.

There's also a theory that the whole entire thing was a dream that Tommy Lee Jones' character had. I mean, the last words of the entire movie were "..and then I woke up."

Another thing to support that theory is that Chigurh is almost superhuman. He appears everywhere and just can't be defeated.
 
I know. I wanted Moss to survive as well, which probably sealed his fate. lol Not because he was "good" but because he was a simple man dealing with such animals.

Exactly! The coin toss is a brilliant scene. He know he has the power, he can kill this person, but he decides to make a game out of it. It's just chilling.

Glad you liked it BeautifulMistakex. The suspense really kills, and it's just a top-notch movie all around :nod: heh, the haircut - otherwise known as "The Bardem". Apparently it was modelled after a picture of a brothel patron in 1979 (the movie is set in 1980, although I didn't realise it). And when Javier saw the haircut he said "Oh now I'm not going to get laid for the next two months" :lol:
 
I just saw No Country For Old Men, and I thought it was pretty good! I'm not typically interested in movies that consist of a killer killing everyone in sight, but the added plot to this movie was very engaging to me.

Javier Bardem was amazing. The Oscar was totally deserved. I was totally afraid of him... and that haircut.

Oh, the DVD looks awesome. I want to rent it when it comes out. It's cheaper than watching it in the theatres :lol: I thought it was coming out 8th April though?

Weird that those places get DVDs earlier, but I guess it's cool. I don't know when DVDs come here though, it's a lot later than America for sure :(
 
Yes, it was. Especially since I'm broke and wouldn't have been able to buy it myself. :D

I haven't watched it yet, I'm waiting for my house to quiet down. There's been lots of people here lately and I want to be able to focus.
 
Oh, that makes sense then ROCKSTAR :nod: I honestly didn't expect him to die though. Not that I thought he would survive, either - I didn't really think about his fate much, I was just watching... but seeing his body gave me a shock. Blindsided indeed.

Yeah, he killed the wife. I definitely saw him check for blood and anyway like what mkooh said he was a man of his word.

He's a strange one isn't he? He's cold and with no respect for human lives at all but at the same time he has this... inquisitiveness to him somehow. I don't quite know how to explain to him, but there seems to be a curiosity and happiness in his work. It's as if people are nothing but distractions to his goal (so he disposes of them if he needs to) but the journey to his goal is something he enjoys. And the whole coin toss thing - he believes in fate. For a merciless killer, that's a bit of a surprise. He's surprisingly multifaceted.
 
I really want to see There Will Be Blood. I can't wait to compare the movies. I envy you now! :lol: J/K I have to see it to analize the Oscars with the whole deck of cards.

I haven't read Atonement, but by watching the movie you call the script was put together with needle and thread. The movie hinges on moments, very little details that make the big picture beautiful and heartbreaking. It's not a simple or linear story. It's a very complicated tale of of small moments and individual stories culminating in a single note of realization.
 
You know, now that I've watched There Will Be Blood, I can't help but feel that Robert Elswitt deserved to win as well. I think all the nominees for Best Cinematography were really good this year. I can't really decide who should have won, they were all amazing... but I do feel bad for Roger Deakins. That's for sure :lol:

I didn't watch Atonement, but I've heard the book was unadaptable and in that case it should have won. I mean, lifting from the book verbatim isn't that difficult is it? I'm not criticising the Coen brothers, not at all, but in that case then Atonement should probably have won it.

Best Supporting... I wanted Casey Affleck to win for Assassination, at first, but after watching No Country I was just blown away by Javier Bardem. Well I'm sure Casey will be winning awards in the future anyway!

Best Director and Best Picture... I kind of really liked TWBB as well so it's hard to say. But NCFOM was more conventional than TWBB, definitely, and maybe TWBB just polarised the Oscar voting block too much, in the end. Well, doesn't matter.

I agree that the "dream" monologue was used as symbolism. I'd need to listen to it again to give a better opinion, but yeah. :) My brother bought me the DVD (thanks, bro!) so I can't wait to watch it again, on my tv, with time to listen to every word, watch every move.

Cinematography was a huge loss for No Country.

The Best Movie/Director were more than deserved, imo. The Adapted Screenplay one, not so much. I think Atonement should've won that one hands down.

Javier Bardem winning Best Supporting Actor is so right, it's not even worth mentioning. :lol: That Oscar had his name written since the last dailies were shot for No Country.
 
Tell me about it. Every single scene with Chigurh in it, the tension just went right up.

Now that the Oscars are over, firstly, congratulations for the 4 Oscars. But what did you think? Were they deserving of those 4 Oscars, or should other movies have won in some of the categories? And were there others that they should have won?

mukooh To me, that's one of the amazing things about Anton, his honesty. Also, the fact that while he's ruthless, he has absolute control over everything he does and how he goes about it. It's inhuman to be so cold and technical, yet he is.
