No Choice But To Work!!

Hi all

As some of you may know i had a choice of having a 3 level fusion or living with the pain!
I chose the latter an 3 weeks ago went back working with horses acouple of hours aday. Turning out an bringing in-no lifting at all.
Yes it is painful but i have a mind over matter'thing' going on at the moment.

Due to finances i have to look for another job as i am not entitled to any benefits.
I have accepted working as a carer in a local old peoples home working nights where apparantly there is no lifting as everyone is able bodied.

I start next week an just hoping i can cope.
I have to cope or my house is on the line.

Sorry to have bored you but am very anxious and just wanted to let it out.

Hi Sherry, your post certainly does NOT bore any of us, so don't ever worry about that, we're here to listen. I just lost my job a few weeks ago due to my company going bankrupt, so everyone lost their jobs. I was very lucky that my Dept. Boss was extremely understanding with my medical problems. I always worried I might lose my job especially with needing to take so much time for doc appts and such. But even when I extreme pain, I still dragged mysefl to work somehow, though there were times I was sent home. But still my boss & coworkers were very understanding & helpful...we were like a big family. Now I am very worried about finding a new job and/or worried about getting fired at a new place when I have more pain/problems. Plus I'm not finding anything local enough (as you know us spineys have a difficult time driving for too long). Plus my epidurals will be wearing off soon and I'm already starting to feel it. I also have no choice but to work, so I know how you feel.

I am wondering if you were in alot of pain when you went to this job interview? If so, did they ask you anything about it? I'm also afraid of that. Even though my pain isnt severe right now, I still walk with a limp due to the big brace I have on my one foot/ankle and it's obvious that something is wrong with me LOL.

I want to wish you lots of luck in your new job and I hope you can cope with the work; I do know how hard it will be for you. I also hope if anyone there sees your pain, that they will be understanding. But just wanted to let you know my little story and that you are not alone in your worries about working.

Thanks for your encouragement.

I must admit i didnt mention my back problems.

I know its basically lying but people are put off when i tell them i have a serious back problem!

I understand how they feel because even with equal oppotunities and things i would rather give the job to someone who is fit.

This may be wrong but when you are desperate people do desperate things.

I will make sure i use my back support and the work is supposed to be very light so i might just get away with it.
 
Sherry, I will be praying for you and hope it all works out. It is difficult what spinneys face dealing with the day to day pain and everyone expecting us to work. Good luck.
 
Sherry, my heart and prayers go out to you! I pray that your new job will allow you to work "pain-free." I also pray that you will receive excellent benefits and not have to do any lifting. I somewhat understand what you are going through, since I go to college full-time. Some days, I think to myself, how am I going to keep this up, while dealing with chronic pain. I try to stay optimistic and set a good example for my young children. I hope the best for you!
