No appetite but gained lots of weight

This all started in 97 with a two year long headache and rapid weight gain. Dr's had no explanations about the headaches and told me to stay out of the frig. I'm not a snacker and in fact as the years have gone on I have had no appetite and forget to eat until my husband comes home and asks if I have eaten today. I am usually on the go and food is in the way. In 1995 I started drinking coffee and unfortunately replace food for creamered coffee. I have cut "way" back on the coffee and don't have it everyday and also try to only have 2 cups for the day. My headaches went away after 3 months of Amma Massages. I now only get one once in awhile. I am constantly fatigued, my left shoulder has very limited use before it has pain that makes me sick, my left hip is now becoming an issue especially if I have sat very long. I had my gallbladder out Dec 31, 2008. I thought maybe some of my energy would return afterward but it is as bad or worse than before. I have a Dr. that I do see, but we have got nowhere. She has ran all kinds of tests and everything comes back normal and "great". If I do any kind of physical activity, I pay for it for the next week. I am soooooooooo frustrated. I have read about adrenal fatigue, and I fit a bunch of those symptoms, I also fit a bunch of the thyroid symptoms. I grew up in North Central Idaho and there are alot of thyroid cancer as well as other nasty things as a result of the fallout from the Nuclear Tests they did in Nevada. (Thank you very much...govt.) I went from 126 to 184(at almost 40) in less than a year and my highest weight has been 192. Where should I start looking for answers? Dr's don't seem to have the time and they want lots of $'s to help figure it out.

Oh so sorry you feel so bad. I would definitely pursue the thyroid theory. I think I would also change Doctors. If I were you I'd see an Endocrinologist, you really need to rule out thyroid cancer sooner rather than later. Some of your symptoms do suggest hypothyroidism and Doctors often need their arms twisted to diagnose it. You might find you'll get more help if you post on the thyroid board, there are some very knowledgable people down there All the best.

I agree it sounds like possible hypothyroidism, especially the sudden weight gain and headaches.

Have you had the Anti-TPO and Thyroglobulin tests? What different TSH values have you had? (If they are greater than 2, especially close to 4, that could indicate hypothyroid, even though the "normal range" goes up to 4.)

I also agree you would have a better chance getting diagnosed from an endocrinologist.

Best wishes to you!
