NME top 50 albums of the 00s

What is this ****? I was hoping it was a joke until I actually clicked the link. They put the ****ing Klaxons on the list? That was one of the worst albums I had the misfortune of hearing this decade. Looking through I see a few albums that I feel should be on any top 50 list, and the rest don't deserve to be on anyone's list. This is complete crap. Good thing I was done with NME before I started with it, this could crush the soul right out of its readers.

Haha, or better yet, why not get people together here on rab who have been paying a lot of attention to specific genres this decade and compile a REAL Top 50 albums of the 00's?

it's just uninspiring, i feel like i've read this list fifty times before. it's classic Guardian supplement, parent-friendly, high street casual bullshit.
Of all the albums released in the last ten years, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Arcade Fire get two each... that's just wrong. And i repeat.. f*cking THINK TANK??!!!
Walkmen?? Who the hell are they employing over there? This is supposed to be the New Music Express, a platform for youth culture that had a big hand in kicking off punk in this country... I'm sure it's always been crap, but they at least had a few good writers at one point... nowadays they seem to have no qualms about being the mouthpiece for advertisers and labels, they flaunt it in fact

I think considering your style in music, you should've downloaded Kid A first lol.

And why are we still trying to guess instead of you telling us what that album is xD.

Lists like this make me wish I had been listening to good music for the whole decade so I knew more stuff that was released and I could make a counter list. And it would be cool to even know what year all my music is from... I'm a lazy **** and I really need to fix all the tags on my music :(

This list is far more horrible than you guys realize. Where's the jazz, the electronic, the Americana, the folk, the good hip-hop, the prog., the experimental shit that's so good that you can't even categorize it?

Seriously, lists like these are just fucking disgraceful.

You're right, it totally is uninspired and tame. Like most lists I come across. So I tend not to pay any attention to any of them or get too upset by them. :p: But then again I know nothing about NME so I don't have any expectations.

indeed... wiki NME and you will get the idea... and you're right it's not worth getting upset about, you accept the fact that it's the tabloid of music magazines, but i thought the utter bankruptcy of this list from a prevalent weekly publication with international circulation deserved the props. And there is a fine tradition of NME-bashing on this forum anyway =D

there are definitely a few good albums in there, but this was concocted by some very savvy journos catering to their market: impressionable teenagers (christ knows there are plenty of people in their 20s that even read it)... but like i said i don't know how much influence they have anymore, they've been superceded by the free flow of info/music/criticism on the internet.

You're right. I'm a big electronic and prog fan, and didn't even think about it. I'm just so used that stuff never showing up on "popular" lists. I'd love to see a completely non-biased, non-genre-specific list. Despite there being good stuff on the list, all of it's related to the mainstream "indie" scene.
