Nirvana

nice haha. i technically had a mullet going this spring, i just didn't get a hair cut all winter, had i trimmed the top i would have had some SERIOUS mullet action going on hahaha it's not quite the same when your bangs reach your chin haha

it was rumours :D

and there were types of people kurt didnt want listening to his music and axl took advantage of this and turned heaps of gnr fans into nirvana-haters at the time

Yeah, I like Nirvana. I think Kurt has a voice that is appealing to alot of people, mainly to young-uns that liked his rebelious style and his pitchy unorthodox voice. I personally think Kurt was a lazy prick at times, that, once he got his fame, acted like an arrogant brat. I don't say this because he killed himself, I say this because I just loathed his personality. As far as music goes though, I really love his MTV Unplugged album, especially the song, Lake of Fire. I just can't watch the video, for seeing his personality in action.

As for Smells Like Teen Spirit, I think it just about as good as all of his other stuff. The only difference between this song and Nirvana's others is that this one got really popular. Its popular because it is a loud song full of energy and it was probably pretty awesome to all the kiddies when it first came out. But now it seems Nirvana fans do not believe it deserves all the praise it gets because they have made much better music than this. Well, I think its true that there are better songs than this, but this is usually the song that gets you interested and aware of Nirvana's style. I know this is the first song I heard when I was introduced to Nirvana. And because of this song, it got me looking into all their other stuff.

Yep, Shocking Blue, that's a good one.
My favorites (as of now)
Lounge Act
Tourette's
On A Plain (Unplugged)
Dive
Old Age
Milk It
Token Eastern Song
Oh, The Guilt

If you have a good reason for not liking them anymore, then good for you.

All I was saying is that I don't like when somebody turns on a band JUST because they went mainstream.

15 years ago who would of thought he would become a politician and look like that?

As far as I'm aware, Krist Novoselic has still dabbled in the music industry post Nirvana. He apparently turned down Grohl's offer to join The Foo Fighters because he thought people would think they were just a reformed Nirvana, but despite this he's been doing all bits and pieces for various banRAB and I've read a lot of stuff he's written on music in various publications.

Exactly.

Queen for example are overexposed, but people talk so much sh*t about them, I'd actually call them underrated, even if We Will Rock You winRAB up on every radio station and football game.

That basically summarizes my mums feelings towarRAB him. She says he's a coward who took the easy and selfish way out and for that, she'll never think of him the same way that she did in the Nirvana's hay day.

$50 says he would have gone off his rocker and completely alienate his fans by switching to some weird, niche genre of music.

Like Polka or Calypso or something.

The only ones I don't like off of Incesticide are Big Long Now, Aero Zeppelin and Hairspray queen. I love Beeswax and I have to agree Anuerysm is easily one of Kurt Cobain's best written songs.

I love the Vaselines covers but the Devo one is below average and Stain has an insane guitar solo.
I can see were you are coming from by calling the cover songs Green Day-ish, they seemed a lot more Pop-y than a lot of Nirvanas other stuff.
Dive and Sliver are up there with my favorite Nirvana songs though, next to Oh, The Guilt.

mr. dave is just naturally knowledgable at that kinda stuff, i don't think he's really trying to "go out of his way" in here. he's like this in every thread.

There's plenty of other reasons why people would hate them for going mainstream.

Some banRAB songs just don't stand up to being played on radio or TV 30 times a day. That'll put me off a band instantly, I don't want to hear the same stuff over & over again. Even if it's stuff I like.

And then you have banRAB who bang on about loving how much they have the artistic freedom to do whatever they want and all this kind of stuff & 2 years later they have some song on an advert selling something.
I'm not against banRAB using music to make a bit of extra money, I just can't stand the hypocrisy of being preached to and then see them throw it in people's faces.

All valid reasons for not liking a band going mainstream
