Nirvana

i always figured they'd go the neil young / crazy horse way. cobain could have easily been successful as a solo acoustic act and then toured with nirvana when he felt like rocking out.

the real question is what would the foo fighters have amounted to if cobain hadn't killed himself.
 
I totally agree with you on that. I don't think nirvana are legendary, but they're a gateway to good music. I might not have ever gotten into punk rock if I hadn't listened to Nirvana.(I'm not saying nirvana's punk rock, for anyone who wants to start anything). In spite of all the hype they're a pretty solid band. I think if kurt cobain could see the music he influenced beyond the grave he'd be pretty choked.

Nevermind - "Lounge Act"
Incesticide - "Aero Zeppelin"
In Utero - "Serve the Servants"

B Sides/Rare - "Verse Chorus Verse" (the orginal song, not the one that ended up on No Alternative under that name - although that's a great song too)
 
What I don't like is how people try to discredit him over stuff like that.

Gee, a musician that wants to make money for what he does, what a disgrace to all the musicians in the world who are signed onto labels big and small that specifically sell their music for profit, a real f*cking disgrace.

I mean people always say things like "it's a bad song but I love it"

Well, if you love it, then how can it really be a bad song?

Gulty pleasure is a real silly term when you think about it, if I truly felt guilty for liking something, I wouldn't be listening to it. :laughing:
 
There was this night a few months ago where I was just obsessing over Smells Like Teen Spirit for no apparent reason. I felt like I really needed "get it" more deeply than I did. I was pouring over the lyrics; listening to the song over and over again. I came across that interview and it was kinda' like a revelation for me.
 
I have a question, and I want you guys to be completely honest.
If Incesticide (Nirvana's album released after Nevermind whcih contained recordings from the when they were trying to find drumers before they found Dave Grohl before Nevermind was released) had the publicity that Nevermind had, and Nevermind got the publicity Incesticide received, but still contained the same songs which one would you truly be more proud to say you like? Would you dismiss Incesticide due to its publicity?
 
I agree so much.

There are those kiRAB who want to be "rebels" though, and if their favorite band goes mainstream, they'll turn on them in a snap.

Rather biased if you ask me.
