Just another tale of a company most people never heard of trying to make a quick buck off of a huge company with deep pockets. It's a remote control with a trigger underneath...ridiculous. Somebody on Gamespot made an excellent point about the N64 controller and it's Z trigger underneath, which was introduced in 1995, a full 2 years before this patent was submitted.
The Wii remote (then called the Revolution) was first introduced at the Tokyo Games Show in September of 2005. The Wii itself was first mentioned in a press release for E3 2004 and partially unveiled at E3 2005.
